Lower Hutt
Lower Hutt ( mi, Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai) is a city in the Wellington Region of New Zealand. Administered by the Hutt City Council, it is one of the four cities that constitute the Wellington metropolitan area. It is New Zealand's sixth most populous city, with a population of . The total area administered by the council is around the lower half of the Hutt Valley and along the eastern shores of Wellington Harbour, of which is urban. It is separated from the city of Wellington by the harbour, and from Upper Hutt by the Taita Gorge. Lower Hutt is unique among New Zealand cities, as the name of the council does not match the name of the city it governs. Special legislation has since 1991 given the council the name "Hutt City Council", while the name of the place itself remains "Lower Hutt City". Soling
The Soling is an open keelboat that holds the World Sailing "International class" status. The class was used from the 1972 Olympics (Kiel) until the 2000 Olympics (Sydney) as " Open Three Person Keelboat". Besides the Olympic career of the Soling the boat is used for International and local regattas as well as for recreational sailing. The Soling is managed by the International Soling Association under auspician of World Sailing/ISAF/IYRU since 1968. The Soling is a strong boat designed for any wind and sea condition by Jan Herman Linge from Norway in 1964. The boats are one-design originating from an authorized single plug and mould system and made of fiberglass. This together with a strict set of class rules makes competition possible on a "level playing field". Sanders Memorial Cup
The Sanders Memorial Cup is a trophy for senior interprovincial challenge sailing competitions in New Zealand. It was first sailed for in 1921, when it was won by the yacht ''Heather'', which represented the Otago province. The Sanders Memorial Cup is the oldest sailing trophy still competed for in New Zealand. History In early 1921, the Otago Yacht and Motorboat Association challenged its Auckland counterpart to a challenge over a series of races to be conducted in X-class yachts. Walker & Hall, a jewelry firm, donated a 50-guinea cup as a trophy, which was to be named the Sanders Memorial Cup. This was in memory of Lieutenant Commander William Sanders, from Takapuna, who served in the First World War with the Royal Naval Reserve and was a posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross.
