Hugh Paton
Hugh Paton (October 5, 1852 – January 28, 1941) was a Scottish business owner in Montreal. Biography The son of William Paton and Mary Shedden, he was born in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, was educated in Paisley and came to Canada in 1871. He was first employed as private secretary for his uncle John Shedden, a railway contractor based in Toronto. His uncle was killed in a railway accident in 1873 and Paton became secretary-treasurer for The Shedden Forwarding Company, which handled storage, collection and cartage services for the Grand Trunk Railway; also at this time, he moved to Montreal. After the death of the company's manager in 1879, Paton became manager and later company president. The Montreal General Hospital (MGH) (french: Hôpital Général de Montréal) is a hospital in Montreal, Quebec, Canada established in the years 1818-1820. The hospital received its charter in 1823. It is currently part of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and is located on Mount Royal, at the intersection of Pine Avenue (Avenue des Pins) and Côte-des-Neiges Road. It has six pavilions: A, B, C, D, E and Livingston (L); plus a research centre in a separate building next to the L pavilion. The first MGH was built at the corner of Craig Street (today St. Antoine) and St. Lawrence Boulevard and only had 24 beds. The Rivière des Prairies (; ), called the Back River in English, is a delta channel of the Ottawa River in southwestern Quebec, Canada. The Kanien'kehá:ka called it ''Skowanoti'', meaning "River behind the island". The river separates the cities of Laval and Montreal. Geography Flowing west to east, the Rivière des Prairies bisects the Hochelaga Archipelago and originates in the Lake of Two Mountains. Andrew Robertson (businessman)
Andrew Robertson (18 June 1827 – 29 March 1890) was a successful Scottish dry goods merchant at Montreal. He was best known as Chairman of the Montreal Harbour Commission. He purchased and donated the land on which the Erskine Presbyterian Church was built, and was president and Governor of the Montreal General Hospital. He was the first President of the Bell Telephone Company of Canada and the Commercial Travellers' Association of Canada. He was also President of the Montreal Board of Trade, the Dominion Board of Trade and the Royal Canadian Insurance Company. Scotland Robertson was born June 18, 1827, at Paisley, the son of Alexander Robertson and Grant Stuart Macdonald (1805–1828), daughter of Malcolm MacDonald (1745–1809) of Paisley.
