Hugh Murray (footballer)
Hugh 'Shug' Murray (born 8 January 1979) is a Scottish retired professional footballer. He came through the youth ranks at St Mirren, where he celebrated his testimonial year in 2007 and eventually broke the club record for appearances. He also had short spells at Partick Thistle, Dumbarton and Clyde. Club career St Mirren Born in Bellshill, Murray broke into the St Mirren side under Tony Fitzpatrick towards the end of the 1996–97 season. The following season, he soon became an established member of the side. At the end of that season, St Mirren were flirting with relegation to Scottish Second Division (which would have been a financial disaster for the club). The team travelled to face fellow strugglers Stirling Albion and Murray netted a goal in the top corner to win the match. Bellshill
Bellshill (pronounced "Bells hill") is a town in North Lanarkshire in Scotland, southeast of Glasgow city centre and west of Edinburgh. Other nearby localities are Motherwell to the south, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Hamilton to the southwest, Viewpark to the west, Holytown to the east and Coatbridge to the north. The town of Bellshill itself (including the villages of Orbiston and Mossend) has a population of about 20,650. The 1998–99 season was the 102nd season of Scottish league football. League competitions Scottish Premier League Summary The 1998–99 SPL season was one that ended in success for Rangers. Dutchman Dick Advocaat was brought in to replace Walter Smith at Rangers and made major changes, bringing in many players. Rangers were comfortable for most of the season, being top for most of it. Their main low of the season was a 5–1 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead. After beating Aberdeen 3–1 at Ibrox on 25 April, Rangers had a chance to clinch the title at Parkhead on 2 May. Rangers did what they wanted to do with a 3–0 victory. Two goals from Neil McCann and a Jorg Albertz penalty gave Rangers their 100th league victory over Celtic. Motherwell ( sco, Mitherwall, gd, Tobar na MÃ thar) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Historically in the parish of Dalziel and part of Lanarkshire, Motherwell is the headquarters for North Lanarkshire Council. The Falkirk Stadium is a football stadium in Falkirk, central Scotland, which is the home ground of Scottish League One club Falkirk and Lowland Football League club East Stirlingshire. The 2008–09 season was the 112th season of competitive football in Scotland. Overview * Hamilton Academical competed in the Scottish Premier League for the first time, their first season in the top-flight since the 1988–89 season, after being promoted as First Division champions the previous season. * Gretna were due to play in the First Division after being relegated from the SPL. However, on 29 May 2008, they were demoted to the Third Division due to their failure to guarantee that they would fulfill their fixtures. Gretna resigned from the SFL on 3 June 2008 with the club's administrators warning of the threat of liquidation, creating an opening in the Third Division for a new SFL member. Kevin McGowne
Kevin McGowne (born 16 December 1969 in Kilmarnock) is a Scottish former professional footballer. Kevin McGowne was a defender who began his career at St Mirren in 1991. He joined St Johnstone in 1992 and spent four seasons with the saints before being signed by Kilmarnock by Alex Totten. He spent six years with Kilmarnock and helped them lift the 1997 Scottish Cup after beating Falkirk in the final. Dundee United was his next destination in 2002 but he spent just one season at Tannadice, making 12 league appearances. He had a short spell with Partick Thistle in 2003 before re-joining St Mirren the same year. He helped St Mirren return to the Scottish Premier League by winning promotion in 2005–06. He also played as St Mirren won the 2005 Scottish Challenge Cup Final against Hamilton Academical. McGowne left St Mirren in July 2007 after helping the club retain their SPL status in 2006–07.
