Hugh Lusk (cricketer)
Hugh Butler Lusk (12 January 1866 – 26 February 1944) was a New Zealand cricketer and lawyer. Life and career After attending Auckland Grammar School, Lusk studied law. He was admitted to the Bar in 1890. Lusk married Bessie Rees, a daughter of William Lee Rees and a niece of W. G. Grace, in Auckland in March 1891. He became Crown Solicitor for Hawke's Bay in 1902, succeeding another cricketer, Arthur Cotterill. He retained the position until his death. He practised law in Napier for more than 50 years and was a member of the council of the New Zealand Law Society for 30 years. Cricket Lusk made his first-class cricket debut for Auckland in 1889-90, playing five matches as a middle-order batsman and opening bowler. He had little success with the bat, but took eight wickets in two matches against the touring New South Wales team, including figures of 5 for 35 in the first match. Harold Lusk
Harold Butler Lusk (8 June 1877 – 13 February 1961) was a New Zealand cricketer, golfer and schoolmaster. He played first-class cricket from 1899 to 1921, and was Headmaster of King's College, Auckland, in the 1940s. Life and career Born in Auckland, Lusk was educated at Sydney High School, Sydney Church of England Grammar School, and at Auckland University College, where he earned Master of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees. Lusk made his first-class debut as a batsman for Auckland in the 1899–1900 season, but it was not until his 16th match, in 1907–08, after he had transferred to Canterbury, that he scored his first fifty, 66 against Auckland in the first-ever match in the Plunket Shield. In 1909-10 he scored his first century, 102 out of a team total of 241, opening against Otago, and was selected to open for New Zealand in the two matches against Australia later that season; he scored 83 runs in four innings. ''The New Zealand Herald'' is a daily newspaper published in Auckland, New Zealand, owned by New Zealand Media and Entertainment, and considered a newspaper of record for New Zealand. The New Zealand cricket team toured Australia in February 1899, playing two first-class matches against state teams and two other matches. It was New Zealand's first overseas tour. The team Alfred Holdship, who probably would have captained the team, George Burnes, Wally Pearce, Charles Richardson and Arnold Williams were selected but were unable to make the trip. New Zealand Cricket Team
The New Zealand national cricket team represents New Zealand in men's international cricket. Named the Black Caps, they played their first Test in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth country to play Test cricket. From 1930 New Zealand had to wait until 1956, more than 26 years, for its first Test victory, against the West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland. They played their first ODI in the 1972–73 season against Pakistan in Christchurch. North Island Cricket Team
The North Island cricket team is a representative cricket team based in New Zealand. They have played intermittently in first-class and List A cricket since 1894. They have most frequently played against the South Island cricket team, but have also played first-class matches against touring national sides. In the 1981–82, 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons, they faced South Island in one-day matches billed as the "Plunket Shield", while similar contests in 2003–04 and 2004–05 were named the "State of Origin" matches.
