Hugh The Dull, Lord Of Douglas
Hugh the Dull (1294 – between 1333 and 1346) was Lord of Douglas, a Scottish nobleman and cleric. The second son of William the Hardy, Lord of Douglas, William Wallace's companion in arms, and Eleanor Ferrers. Hugh's elder brother was Sir James Douglas, a hero of the Wars of Independence, and his younger was Sir Archibald Douglas, Guardian of the realm, and Scots commander at the Battle of Halidon Hill. Early life Hugh of Douglas is first heard of in 1296. Following the forfeiture of his father's English possessions, the two-year-old Hugh was taken into custody at Stebbing in Essex, one of his father's manors. Nothing further is heard of him until 1325 when he appeared by proxy as a canon of Glasgow Cathedral during a meeting of Chapter. He appears to have been at this time parish priest of Roxburgh. Hugh Douglas, Earl Of Ormonde
Hugh Douglas, Earl of Ormonde (died 1455) was a Scottish Soldier and nobleman, a member of the powerful Black Douglases. He was the fourth son of James the Gross, 7th Earl of Douglas and his wife Beatrice, daughter of Henry II Sinclair, Earl of Orkney. He was a younger brother of William Douglas, 8th Earl of Douglas, James Douglas, 9th Earl of Douglas, Archibald Douglas, Earl of Moray and older to John Douglas, Lord of Balvenie. Life He was created Earl of Ormonde before 1445 when he attended a meeting of the Parliament of Scotland, under that title. He received from his brother the 8th Earl, the lands of Rattray, Aberdour, and Crimond in Aberdeenshire, that of Dunsyre, Lanarkshire, and those of Ardmanach (Modern Redcastle, between Tore and Muir of Ord) and Ormonde, (modern day Avoch) in Invernesshire. Hugh Douglas (minister)
Hugh Osborne Douglas was an eminent Church of Scotland minister in the 20th century. He was born into an ecclesiastical family in Glasgow on 11 September 1911 and educated at Glasgow Academy and the University of Glasgow. Licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Glasgow in 1935 he was Assistant Minister at Govan Old Parish Church until 1939. He was also Minister at St John's Leven, North Leith Parish Church and Dundee Parish Church (St Mary's) during his long career. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland from 1970 to 1971 and Dean of the Chapel Royal from 1974 until 1981.
