Hudsonville is an unincorporated community in Marshall County, Mississippi, United States. It is located in the hill country of north Mississippi. The Mississippi Central Railroad runs through Hudsonville. Hudsonville was located along the "Wet Weather Trail" which followed a series of ridges between present-day Pontotoc and Memphis. This route enabled Indians and early pioneers to avoid dangerous river crossings and swamps during periods of wet weather. Pontotoc, Mississippi
Pontotoc is a city in, and the county seat of, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, located to the west of the much larger city of Tupelo. The population was 5,625 at the 2010 census. Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word that means, “Land of the Hanging Grapes.” History Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word meaning "Land of Hanging Grapes". Samuel Edgerton Lumpkin (April 21, 1908 – July 9, 1964) was an American politician from Tupelo, Mississippi. A Democrat, he served as the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi from 1948 to 1952 under Governor Fielding L. Wright. He was born in Hudsonville in 1908. Before elevation to Lt. Junior Kimbrough
David "Junior" Kimbrough (July 28, 1930 – January 17, 1998) was an American blues musician. His best-known works are "Keep Your Hands off Her" and "All Night Long". Early life Kimbrough was born in Hudsonville, Mississippi, and lived in the north Mississippi hill country near Holly Springs. His father, a barber, played the guitar, and Junior picked his guitar as a child. He was apparently influenced by the guitarists Lightnin' Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell and Eli Green. Career In the late 1950s Kimbrough began playing the guitar in his own style, using mid-tempo rhythms and a steady drone played with his thumb on the bass strings. Mississippi Highway 313 (MS 313) is a minor state highway in Marshall County, Mississippi, serving the communities of Atway and Hudsonville. The signed, state-maintained portion is approximately long and is generally a narrow two-lane route. Route description MS 313 begins at an intersection with Holland Road/Old Hudsonville Road in the community of Hudsonville. Past this intersection, the road continues on as Old Hudsonville Road. The highway enters a long left curve for a tenth of a mile and intercepts Jackson Road. The road crosses the Mississippi Central Railroad and leaves Hudsonville. Mississippi Central Railroad (reporting mark MSCI) is a short line railroad operating over 51 miles from Oxford, Mississippi, to Grand Junction, Tennessee, owned by Pioneer Railcorp. The railroad's principal commodities are wood products and fertilizer. The MSCI offers connections to the BNSF Railway in Holly Springs and Norfolk Southern Railway in Grand Junction.
