Claire Huddart
Claire Marie Huddart (born 22 December 1971) is an English former freestyle swimmer. Swimming career Huddart represented Great Britain at two consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1996. She won the 1998 ASA National Championship 200 metres freestyle title. She represented England and won a gold medal in the freestyle relay event and a silver medal in the freestyle relay event, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Four years later she represented England again and won two silver medals in the relay events, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dick Huddart
Richard Huddart (22 June 1936 – 11 August 2021) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. A Great Britain and England international representative forward, he played at club level in England for Whitehaven and St Helens (with whom he won the 1961 Challenge Cup), and in Australia for St. George (with whom he won the 1966 NSWRFL Premiership). Huddart was both a Whitehaven and St Helens R.F.C. Hall of Fame inductee. Background Dick Huddart was born in Flimby, Cumberland on 22 June 1936. After leaving school he worked as a fitter at a local coal mine. He played amateur rugby for Risehow, Huddart turned professional, signing with rugby league club Whitehaven in 1954. Life Huddart was born at Whitehaven, Cumberland, the son of William Huddart, a shipbuilder, and his wife Frances, ''née'' Lindow. Huddart was educated at St. Bees School 1856–1860, came to Australia in 1860, and joined the coal and shipowning business of his uncle, Captain Peter Huddart, at Geelong, Victoria. In the mid-1860s Captain Huddart retired to England and James took over the business. The business had expanded and in 1874 James Huddart was the owner of the ''Medea'', a wooden barque of 423 tons, and next year the ''Queen Emma'' of 314 tons was also registered in his name. Joseph Huddart
Joseph Huddart FRS (1741–1816) was a British hydrographer, engineer and inventor. He surveyed harbours and coasts but made a fortune from improving the design and manufacture of rope. He was highly regarded in his time, and his likeness featured in an engraving of distinguished men of science. Huddart was chosen to feature in the central group of the picture with M. I. Brunel, James Watt, Matthew Boulton and Thomas Telford. Biography Huddart was born at Allonby in Cumberland. Huddart's father was both a shoemaker, a farmer and a fish smoker. Huddart's natural talents were mathematics and mechanics. Huddart had built models of a mill and a ship of war merely from descriptions he had read about. Background Huddart was born in Prescot, Lancashire, England, he was the son of Great Britain Rugby League international Dick Huddart, Milton Huddart was married to Joanne, née McLean. They had a daughter, Ashleigh. Huddart was an avid cyclist and keep fit fanatic, but on 13 March 2015 he suffered a cardiac arrest whilst cycling to work and was treated at West Cumberland Hospital prior to being transferred to Cumberland Infirmary later that morning.
