Huckleberry Fire Lookout
The Huckleberry Fire Lookout in Glacier National Park is significant as one of a chain of staffed fire lookout posts within the park. The low two-story timber-construction structure with a pyramidal roof was built in 1933, replacing a similar structure built in 1923. It is one of several similar structures built to a modified version of a plan developed by the U.S. Forest Service. West Glacier is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in eastern Flathead County, Montana, Flathead County, Montana, United States. A fire lookout tower, fire tower or lookout tower, provides housing and protection for a person known as a "fire lookout" whose duty it is to search for wildfires in the wilderness. It is a small building, usually on the summit of a mountain or other high vantage point, to maximize viewing distance and range, known as ''view shed''. From this vantage point the fire lookout can see smoke that may develop, determine the location by using a device known as an ''Osborne Fire Finder'', and call fire suppression personnel to the fire.
