Hubert Reginald Evans (May 9, 1892 - June 16, 1986) was a Canadian writer. He is most noted for his 1954 novel ''Mist on the River'', which has been described as the first Canadian novel ever to present a realistic portrait of First Nations people as its central characters. Evans was born in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, the son of Frances Taylor and William Evans, a teacher. He was raised in Galt.. He briefly worked as a journalist before enlisting in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War I, and after the war he settled at Roberts Creek, British Columbia. His first novel, ''The New Front Line'', was published in 1927. Throughout his career, he also published poetry, short stories, theatrical and radio plays, juvenile and young adult literature, and non-fiction writing on First Nations culture and nature and conservation topics. Hugh Evans (basketball)
Hubert "Hugh" Evans (November 8, 1940 – July 8, 2022) was an American basketball referee in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 28 seasons. He worked 1,969 regular season NBA games and 35 NBA Finals games during his NBA officiating career from 1972 to 2001. He subsequently served as an assistant supervisor of officials in the NBA front office. Early life Evans was born in Squire, West Virginia, in 1940. He studied at North Carolina A&T State University, where he played basketball and baseball for the Aggies. After graduating, he was selected in the 12th round (80th overall) of the 1963 NBA draft by the St. Louis Hawks, becoming the third player from A&T to be drafted by an NBA team after Al Attles and Herbert Gray. However, Evans opted to pursue baseball and played several seasons in the minor leagues for the San Francisco Giants. Hubert Roy Evans FRICE FIStructE FLSW is a Welsh civil engineer and academic. He is a native of Llandysul, in Ceredigion, Wales. A graduate of Swansea University (Wales) he became Professor of Civil and Structural Engineering at Cardiff University, where he spent 26 years of his career. He won international recognition as a civil engineer, receiving numerous awards (including the George Stephenson Medal in 1980) and became a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1992. Evans was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2002, for services to higher education. Bert Evans (August 10, 1922 – May 8, 2008) was a association football, soccer player. Born in Scotland, he earned one cap (sports), cap for the United States men's national soccer team, United States national team in an 8–1 loss to England national football team, England on May 28, 1959. Evans signed professional forms with Swansea City F.C., Swansea Town on his 17th birthday in August 1939. Just three weeks later, however, war broke out and the Football League suspended operations. Evans would never get the chance to shine for his hometown team. He joined the Royal Air Force and played for their representative XI when stationed in Egypt.
