Hsu Li Yang
Hsu Li Yang (born 1972) is a Professor of Infectious Diseases and the first Vice Dean of Global Health in Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore. He is also a Singaporean chess International Master. Education Professor Hsu received his MBBS from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 1998 and his Masters in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2007. He also has a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Institute of Tropical and Preventive Medicine and a Specialist Accreditation in Infectious Diseases from NUS. Chess Championship Professor Hsu won the national Singaporean Chess Championship in 1992 and 1993 when he was an undergraduate. International Master
FIDE titles are awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE (''Fédération Internationale des Échecs'') for outstanding performance. The highest such title is Grandmaster (GM). Titles generally require a combination of Elo rating and norms (performance benchmarks in competitions including other titled players). Once awarded, titles are held for life except in cases of fraud or cheating. Open titles may be earned by all players, while women's titles are restricted to female players. Many strong female players hold both open and women's titles. FIDE also awards titles for arbiters, organizers and trainers. Chess Olympiad
The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, FIDE held an Online Chess Olympiad in 2020 and 2021, with a rapid time control that affected players' online ratings.
