Howie Schwab
Howie Schwab (born 1960) is an American sports trivia expert and television personality. He is best known as the final adversary on ESPN's ''Stump the Schwab'' show. Biography Schwab is a native of Baldwin, New York. A 1982 graduate of St. John's University, Schwab served as the editor-in-chief of ''College & Pro Football News Weekly'' in the mid-1980s before joining ESPN in 1987. By 1995, he was the coordinating producer for the network's website, ESPN.com. Beginning in 1998, Schwab served as a coordinating producer for ESPN studio production, which entailed duties on programs including ''SportsCenter'' and ''Outside the Lines''. ''Stump the Schwab'' is an American game show that aired on ESPN2 and ESPN Classic from July 8, 2004 to September 29, 2006. The show featured three contestants trying to defeat Howie Schwab, ESPN's first statistician, in a sports trivia contest. Stuart Scott was the show's host. The show also appeared on Canada's The Score (television network), The Score Television Network. Each episode of the show had three rounds, "Leading Off", a second round that featured a different game each time, and "The Schwab Showdown." Baldwin is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 33,919 at the time of the 2020 census. ''First Take'' is an American sports talk television show on ESPN. Episodes air daily Monday through Friday, with the live episode airing from 10am ET until noon, with reruns from noon to 2pm ET on ESPN2 and from 2 to 4pm ET on ESPNews. Merril DuAine Hoge (; born January 26, 1965) is a former professional American football player. He played eight seasons at running back for the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears, retiring after the 1994 season. Since 1996 he had been a football analyst for ESPN television.
