Howard Park, Glossop
Howard Park is a public park in Glossop, in Derbyshire, England. It was opened in 1888, and it is listed Grade II in Historic England's Register of Parks and Gardens. History The park was created to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, and to benefit the people of Glossop. Samuel Wood, of the John Wood (millowner), Wood family, owners of cotton mills and important employers in the town, paid for the enclosing and landscaping of the park, and for the building of baths, along with an endowment; his brother Daniel paid for the building of a hospital, with an endowment for its future. Glossop is a market town in the borough of High Peak (borough), High Peak, Derbyshire, England, east of Manchester, north-west of Sheffield and north of Matlock, Derbyshire, Matlock. Near Derbyshire's borders with Cheshire, Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, between above sea level, it is bounded by the Peak District National Park to the south, east and north. In 2021, it had a population of 17,825. Historically, the name ''Glossop'' refers to the small hamlet that gave its name to an ancient parish recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 and then the manorialism, manor given by William I of England to William Peverel.
