Houston High School is a high school in Houston, Mississippi, United States. It was formerly a part of the Houston School District until July 1st, 2021 when the district was merged with the Chickasaw County School District. Houston High School was identified by the University of Southern Mississippi as a model site for School wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS). Houston High School's graduation rate was 89.1% for the 2017−2018 school year, an increase of 30 points from its graduation rate in 2010. In 2018, the Houston High School Solar Car Race Team won its 15th consecutive championship in The Solar Car Challenge. Chickasaw County School District
The Chickasaw County School District is a public school district based in Houston, Mississippi (USA). On June 30, 2021 the Houston School District and the former Chickasaw County School District were dissolved, with a new Chickasaw County School District formed on July 1, 2021. The former school boards were dissolved and a new consolidated board was formed. The districts were consolidated due to a change in Mississippi law that required the consolidation. Houston, Mississippi
Houston is a city in and one of two county seats of Chickasaw County, in northern Mississippi, United States. The population was 3,623 at the 2010 census. History Native American groups had long used the future Chickasaw County for millennia before the coming of European adventurers. Eventually the natives were essentially forced out of the area. An 1832 treaty finally made the area secure for settlement, and emigrants rapidly moved in. The formation of Chickasaw County was authorized on February 9, 1836, and a few days later a committee was authorized to determine the location of the county seat. Judge Joel Pinson offered to donate land for development of this seat, and on July 8, 1836, his offer was accepted. Pinson named the settlement Houston in honor of Sam Houston, a childhood friend. Chickasaw County, Mississippi
Chickasaw County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,392. Its county seats are Houston and Okolona. The county is named for the Chickasaw people, who lived in this area for hundreds of years. Most were forcibly removed to Indian Territory in the 1830s, but some remained and became citizens of the state and the United States. History The Mississippi state legislature created Chickasaw County in 1836, following the cession of the land by the Chickasaw Indians. It was quickly settled by Americans from the east, mainly from the Southern states. The Solar Car Challenge
The Solar Car Challenge is an annual solar-powered car race for high school students. The event attracts teams from around the world, but mostly from American high schools. The race was first held in 1995. Each event is the end product of a two-year education cycle launched by the Winston Solar Car Team. On odd-numbered years, the race is a road course that starts at the Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth, Texas; the end of the course varies from year to year. IMAX is a proprietary system of high-resolution cameras, film formats, film projectors, and theaters known for having very large screens with a tall aspect ratio (approximately either 1.43:1 or 1.90:1) and steep stadium seating. World Solar Challenge
The World Solar Challenge (WSC), since 2013 named Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, is an international event for solar powered cars driving 3000 kilometres through the Australian outback. With the exception of a four-year gap between the 2019 and 2023 events, owing to the cancellation of the 2021 event, the World Solar Challenge is typically held every two years. The course is over through the Australian Outback, from Darwin, Northern Territory, to Adelaide, South Australia. The event was created to foster the development solar-powered vehicles. Christopher Deshun Jones (born July 3, 1994) is an American football defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).
