Arthur Housman
Arthur Housman (October 10, 1889 – April 8, 1942) was an American actor in films during both the silent film era and the Golden Age of Hollywood. Career Arthur Housman was one of the first screen comedians known to the public by name, and one of the first to be part of a movie comedy team. He was a slapstick comic and light leading man for the pioneer Edison studio in New York. In 1913-14 the Edison company cast Housman opposite character actor William Wadsworth as the comedy team "Waddy and Arty." As a member of Edison's stock company, Housman participated in Edison's experimental production of talking pictures. Edison had engineered a way to synchronize dialogue and music (via phonograph records) with the visual action on film, and produced such novelties as ''Musical Blacksmiths'' (a male chorus) and ''Nursery Favorites''. Clemence Housman
Clemence Annie Housman (23 November 1861 – 6 December 1955) was an author, illustrator and activist in the women's suffrage movement. She was the sister of A. E. Housman and Laurence Housman. Her novels included ''The Were-Wolf'', ''Unknown Sea'' and'' The Life of Sir Aglovale De Galis''. She was also a leading figure in the suffragette movement. Life Clemence was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. David Housman
David E. Housman is an American geneticist. He is the Virginia and D.K. Ludwig Professor for Cancer Research in the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is known for his contribution to the discovery of the HTT gene that causes Huntington's disease. Early life David Housman was born on July 30, 1946. As a child he was a control in the original Salk polio vaccine trials in New York, an early experience that left him interested in how clinical trials could be more efficiently conducted. Academic career Housman received his BA in 1966 and MA in 1971 from Brandeis University. George Housman Thomas
George Housman Thomas ( London December 17, 1824 – Boulogne-sur-Mer July 21, 1868), was a British wood-engraver, illustrator and painter. Life He was born in London in 1824 and after an apprenticeship there to a wood engraver, George Bonner, he began work in Paris, first as an engraver, then as a draughtsman on wood. In 1846 he went to the United States to illustrate a New York City paper, and remained there about two years. During this time he obtained a commission from the government of the United States to design banknotes. His health compelled him to return to Europe, and he went to Italy. He was present at the siege of Rome by the French in 1849, and sent sketches of the siege to the '' Illustrated London News''. After spending two years in Italy he returned to England. Glen Housman
Glen Clifford Housman (born 3 September 1971) is an Australian former distance freestyle swimmer of the 1980s and 1990s, who won the silver medal in the 1500-metre freestyle, swimming at the 1992 Summer Olympics. His career was overshadowed by fellow Australian Kieren Perkins, and was also marred by illness. Housman entered the international stage after winning the 400-, 800- and 1500-metre freestyle events at the 1989 Australian championships, gaining selection for the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo, where he claimed gold in the 1500-metre event. He continued to improve, breaking the 1500-metre world record in Adelaide at the Australian trials for the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland. Laurence Housman
Laurence Housman (; 18 July 1865 – 20 February 1959) was an English playwright, writer and illustrator whose career stretched from the 1890s to the 1950s. He studied art in London. He was a younger brother of the poet A. E. Housman and his sister was writer/illustrator Clemence Housman. Early life Laurence Housman was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire to Edward Housman, a solicitor and tax accountant, and Sarah Jane Housman (née Williams). Rosalie Housman
Rosalie Housman (June 25, 1888 – October 28, 1949) was an American composer of mostly songs and chamber music, journalist, and lecturer. Many of her compositions were sung by notable musicians. She received praise and some criticism of her work. Personal life Housman was born on June 25, 1888, in San Francisco. She studied at the University of California and in England. She was a pupil of Arthur Foote, Ernest Bloch, Oscar Weil, and Walter Henry Rothwell. Housman later lectured in the Eastern United States. She traveled back to San Francisco to visit until her death. She died on October 28, 1949, in New York City, at age 61. Walter Henry Housman III (born October 13, 1962) is a former American football offensive tackle who played one season with the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). Housman served as an assistant coach for the Baltimore Brigade of the Arena Football League (AFL) from 2017–2019. He first enrolled at the University of Iowa before transferring to Upsala College. He attended Merrimack High School in Merrimack, New Hampshire. Housman was also a member of the New York Knights, Denver Dynamite and New Orleans Night of the Arena Football League (AFL).
