House Of The Epiphany
The House of the Epiphany is an Anglican educational institution in Kuching, Malaysia, providing theological education to candidates for ordination. It was established in 1952. There were a number of short-lived theological colleges in what is now the Diocese of Kuching before the House of the Epiphany was opened. College of the Holy Way The first theological college in the then Diocese of Labuan was established in 1921, as the College of the Holy Way (also known as Divinity College) in Kudat. The Warden from 1921 to 1928 was the Rev Ernest Parry. Five Chinese candidates were prepared for ordination (as deacons in 1927 and priests in 1928), including the Rev Lim Siong Teck (subsequently martyred by the Japanese in 1945), the Rev Vun Nen Vun, the Rev Chong Paul En Siong, the Rev Lai Choon Sang, and the Rev Chin Phu Yin. Kuching (), officially the City of Kuching, is the capital and the most populous city in the States and federal territories of Malaysia, state of Sarawak in Malaysia. Kudat
Kudat ( ms, Pekan Kudat) is the capital of the Kudat District in the Kudat Division of Sabah, Malaysia. Its population was estimated to be around 29,025 in 2010. It is located on the Kudat Peninsula, about north of Kota Kinabalu, the state capital, and is near the northernmost point of Borneo. The Community of the Resurrection (CR) is an Anglican religious community for men in England. It is based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, and has 13 members as of February 2021. The community reflects Anglicanism in its broad nature and is strongly engaged in the life of the Anglican Communion. It also has a long tradition of ecumenical outlook and practice. Mirfield () is a town and civil parish in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is on the A644 road between Brighouse and Dewsbury. At the 2011 census it had a population of 19,563. Mirfield forms part of the Heavy Woollen District. The College of the Resurrection, popularly known as Mirfield, is an Anglo-Catholic theological college of the Church of England in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, England. The college was founded in 1902 and describes itself as "A Theological College like no other". The college has close links to the Community of the Resurrection. Peter Howes
Peter Henry Herbert Howes OBE PBS (20 March 1911 – 12 April 2003) was an English clergyman in the Anglican Church who spent 44 years in Borneo. He was an assistant bishop of Kuching from 1976 to 1981. Early life Howes was born as Henry Herbert Howes in 1911 in Suffolk to Herbert William Howes (1879-1982), a farmer, and his wife Lilian Emma (née Tungate) (1886-1973). Herbert Howes subsequently became Director of the National Institute of Poultry Husbandry (now part of Harper Adams University) and young Henry (later Peter) grew up in Shropshire, and attended Adams Grammar School in Newport. Career He went to Kelham Theological College in 1929 to train for ordination with the Society of the Sacred Mission. He was ordained deacon in 1934 and priest in 1935. Nigel Edmund Cornwall CBE, (13 August 1903 – 19 December 1984) was an English clergyman in the Church of England. He held the post of Bishop of Borneo from 1949 until 1962. Early life Cornwall was the son of Alan Cornwall, who was Archdeacon of Cheltenham from 1924 to 1932. He was educated at Marlborough College, where his older brother Alan, a county cricketer for Gloucestershire, was later a housemaster. He then studied history at Oriel College, Oxford, gaining a third-class degree in 1926. Epiphany ( ), also known as Theophany in Eastern Christian traditions, is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation (theophany) of God incarnate as Jesus Christ.
