House Of Delegates Of Palau
The House of Delegates of Palau is the lower house of the Palau National Congress (''Olbiil era Kelulau''), Palau's bicameral legislature. The Senate of Palau is the upper house. The House of Delegates has 16 members, each serving four-year terms in single-seat constituencies. Each state represents one constituency. No political parties exist. The last election was held on 3 November 2020. Palau Legislature 1955-1980 The High Commissioner of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands established Palau legislature, ''Olbiil era Kelulau'', in January 1955 by a charter. The legislature was composed of 28 members elected every four years. The presiding officer was initially called ''Bedul Olbiil''. Senate Of Palau
The Senate of Palau is the upper house of the Palau National Congress (''Olbiil era Kelulau''). The Senate has 13 members serving four-year terms in multi-seat constituencies. No political parties exist. The most recent election was held on 3 November 2020. Membership The Constitution does not indicate the number of a members of the Senate. Every 8 years, the National Congress appoints a reapportionment commission to draw up and recommend a district map allocating seats in accordance with the population. Therefore, the number of senators may change as frequently as every 8 years. Any voter can challenge a reapportionment before the Palau Supreme Court. During the first legislature in 1981, there were 18 Senators, which was reduced to 14 in 1984. Takeo Yano (politician)
Takeo Yano, also known as Takeo Iano, was a Japanese judoka who helped in the establishment of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Brazil. Biography Yano was a standout in judo, learning it in the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai under the renowned Hajime Isogai. He worked with the Ono brothers, Yasuichi and Naoichi. They taught at Judo North of Brazil. He also taught in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Along with Kazuo Yoshida in Bahia (founder of Bahia Judo), they helped to establish Brazilian jiu-jitsu. In 1937, Yano fought Hélio Gracie to a draw. But on 1 September 1938, when facing another member of the Gracie family, and the best fighter of the family, George Gracie, Yano lost through a leglock. As a fighter he took on the name ″Oriental Demon″. He also fought Waldemar Santana and defeated him by armlock at the fourth round. Roman Tmetuchl
Roman Tmetuchl (February 11, 1926 – July 1, 1999) was a Palauan political leader and businessman. He grew up in Japanese settlement in Palau, Japanese-controlled Palau and joined the Kempeitai, the Japanese secret police, during World War II. After the war, he became the leader of Palau's Liberal Party. He worked in the Congress of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands from 1964 to 1978 and advocated for Palau gaining a separate status from the rest of Micronesia. He became governor of Airai and engaged in three unsuccessful Palauan presidential campaigns. As a businessman, Tmetuchl led several construction projects for his business holdings and for the Palauan community, including the Roman Tmetuchl International Airport, Palau International Airport (which was later renamed in his honor) and a Seventh-Day Adventist clinic.
