18th Parliament Of Jordan
The 18th Parliament of Jordan was elected at the 2016 Jordanian general election. 130 members were elected and had the right to sit in the National Assembly of Jordan. The parliament was opened on 7 November 2016 when Abdullah II of Jordan, King Abdullah II inaugurated the first regular session of the new parliament with a speech from the throne. The King dissolved the parliament on 27 September 2020. 2020 Jordanian General Election
General elections were held in Jordan on 10 November 2020 to elect the members of the nineteenth House of Representatives. Voter turnout was just 29.88%, the lowest in a decade. The elections took place as the country was experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases. As a result there were numerous calls on social media channels to boycott the elections, particularly as no alternatives to in-person voting were offered. The country went into a four-day total lockdown following elections, starting at 23:00 on election day, an hour later than the originally-stated 22:00. According to Washington Post, "wealthy business executives and tribal independents dominated, while strong, reform-oriented members of parliament lost their seats." Electoral system The 130 seats in the House of Representatives consist of 115 members elected by open list proportional representation from 23 constituencies of between three and nine seats in size and 15 seats reserved for women. The politics of Jordan takes place in a framework of a parliamentary monarchy, whereby the Prime Minister of Jordan is head of government, and of a multi-party system. Abdali ( ar, العبدلي) is an area in the Greater Amman Municipality, it is named relative to King Abdullah I who founded it during the 1940s. It covers an area of in the heart of Amman, with a population of 165,333 in 2015. Large parts of the district are residential, but due its geographical location in the center of the city, it contains several important governmental buildings and businesses. The area is known for containing several bus stations serving routes to many cities in Jordan.
