''House No. 44'' is a 1955 Hindi film directed by M. K. Burman and produced by Dev Anand for his banner Navketan Films. The movie stars Dev Anand and Kalpana Kartik in a lead role. The film is also noted for its popular songs with music by S. D. Burman, with lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi, including "Teri Duniya Mein Jeene Se" and "Chup Hai Dharti Chup Hain Chand Sitaare", sung by Hemant Kumar. Plot Ashok works for the notorious gangster Sunder and his men. One day, he comes across a dead body and he reports it to the police. Ashok then meets Nimmo and falls in love with her. Nimmo asks Ashok to leave the life of a gangster and settle down with her. Ashok agrees, but after a few days of not having any food, Ashok realizes that he was better off being a gangster. Dev Anand
Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand (26 September 1923 – 3 December 2011), better known as Dev Anand, was an Indian actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema, through a career that spanned over six decades. He was one of the most successful actors of Indian cinema and a part of "Trinity- The Golden Trio" along with Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contribution to Indian cinema. He has won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor twice and Filmfare's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993. A fast dialogue delivery style and nodding while doing do soon became the trademarks of Anand's acting in movies. His style was copied by other actors. Kumkum, born Zaibunnisa (08 June 1934 – 28 July 2020), was an Indian actress. She acted in approximately 115 films during her career. Mona Singha (born 19 August 1931), also known by her stage name Kalpana Kartik, is a retired Hindi film actress. She starred in six films in the 1950s. She is the widow of the late Hindi film actor and film maker Dev Anand. Mona Singha was a beauty queen while studying at St. Bede's College, Shimla. She was introduced to films by Chetan Anand of Navketan Films with the film '' Baazi'' in 1951. She co-starred with Dev Anand, whom she worked with in all her subsequent films.
