Houa Vue Moua
Houa Vue Moua (born c1954), along with co-author Barbara J. Rolland, wrote the book, Trail Through The Mists, which tells the story of Moua's early life in Laos during the Laotian Civil War, Secret War and her harrowing escape to Thailand during the subsequent Hmong people, Hmong diaspora. Moua, along with her husband Yong Kay Moua and other members of her family, was one of the early Hmong refugees to resettle in Wisconsin. There she became a bilingual mediator for the emerging Hmong community, specializing in health issues. The community outreach efforts of Houa and Yong Kay were recognized in 1990 by the first George H. W. Bush, President Bush with a Thousand Points of Light Award. Houa also acted as a spokeswoman for Hmong community, presenting workshops on Hmong customs and culture, Hmong culture, religion, and history. The Laotian Civil War (1959–1975) was a civil war in Laos which was waged between the Communist Pathet Lao and the Royal Lao Government from 23 May 1959 to 2 December 1975. It is associated with the Cambodian Civil War and the Vietnam War, with both sides receiving heavy external support in a proxy war between the global Cold War superpowers. Hmong People
The Hmong people ( RPA: ''Hmoob'', Nyiakeng Puachue: , Pahawh Hmong: , ) are a sub-ethnic group of the Miao people who originated from Central China. The modern Hmongs presently reside mainly in Southwest China (Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, and Guangxi) and countries in Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. There is also a very large diasporic community in the United States, comprising more than 300,000 Hmong. Hmong Customs And Culture
The Hmong people are an ethnic group currently native to several countries, believed to have come from the Yangtze river basin area in southern China. The Hmong are known in China as the ''Miao'', which encompasses not only Hmong, but also other related groups such as Hmu, Qo Xiong and A-Hmao. There is debate about usage of this term, especially amongst Hmong living in the West, as it is believed by some to be derogatory, although Hmong living in China still call themselves by this name.
