The Grand Hotel Europe, A Belmond Hotel (russian: Гранд Отель Европа) is a historic five-star luxury hotel on Nevsky Prospect in Saint Petersburg, Russia. History One of the great hotels of 19th-century Europe, the Grand Hotel d'Europe opened on 28 January 1875, replacing an earlier inn situated on the same site. In the 1910s, the hotel was remodeled in the Art Nouveau style to designs by Fyodor Lidval and Leon Benois. During the Soviet period, the hotel was known as the Hotel Evropeiskaya. Nevsky Prospect ( rus, Не́вский проспе́кт, r=Nevsky Prospekt (street), Prospekt, p=ˈnʲɛfskʲɪj prɐˈspʲɛkt) is the main street (high street) in the federal city of Saint Petersburg, St. Petersburg in Russian Federation, Russia. Saint Petersburg was constructed in 1703. The first hotel was built in 1719 on a place of Chicherin House in a Nevsky Prospekt 15. It was a Gostiny Dvor (russian: Гостиный Двор), a gallery where merchants lived, stored the goods and traded in them. The first modern hotel was opened in 1804 on Bolshaya Morskaya street 23/8.
