Hotel Blessing is a historic hotel located in Blessing, Texas, United States. The hotel was designed by Jules Leffland of Victoria. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 1, 1979. Hotel Blessing was built by Jonathan Edwards Pierce, Blessing's founder. Blessing is a census-designated place (CDP) in Matagorda County, Texas, United States. Blessing had its start when the railroad finally was extended to that point, and first settlers accepted the name "Blessing" after their first choice of "Thank God" was deemed unsuitable by postal officials. A post office called Blessing has been in operation since 1903. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all of it land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 861 people, 300 households, and 230 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 423.8 people per square mile (163.8/km2). There were 334 housing units at an average density of 164.4/sq mi (63.5/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 72.01% White, 5.92% Black, 19.98% from other races, and 2.09% from two or more races. Palacios, Texas
Palacios ( ) is a city in Matagorda County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,395 at the 2020 census. Etymology Popular local legend states that the area was named Tres Palacios ("Three Palaces") several centuries ago by shipwrecked Spanish sailors who claimed they saw a vision of three palaces on the bay. Historians believe it was more likely named for José Félix Trespalacios, an early Mexican governor of Texas. The town was originally called Trespalacios, but shortened its name due to a nearby post office already using the longer version. History The native inhabitants of the region were the Karankawa people, whose initial contact with Europeans came in the 16th century when Spanish expeditions first traversed their territory.
