The Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón is a public Hospital, general hospital located at the neighborhood of Ibiza (Madrid), Ibiza in Madrid, Spain, part of the hospital network of the Servicio Madrileño de Salud (SERMAS). It is one of the healthcare institutions associated to the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) for the purpose of clinical internship. History A project of Martín José Marcide, it was built on the landplot delimited by the streets of Doctor Esquerdo, Doctor Castelo, Ibiza and Máiquez formerly occupied by the Hospital de San Juan de Dios. It was an enterprise of the provincial Provincial deputation (Spain), ''diputación''; the Provincial Hospital of Madrid/General Hospital of Madrid (an institution with more than four centuries of history) moved to the new facilities. The Madrilenian Health Service ( es, Servicio Madrileño de Salud, SERMAS) is the body responsible for the system of Universal health care, public health services in the Community of Madrid. The SERMAS was created in 2001, as the functions and services provided by the (INSALUD) in the region were transferred to it. Gregorio Marañón
Gregorio Marañón y Posadillo, OWL (19 May 1887 in Madrid – 27 March 1960 in Madrid) was a Spanish physician, scientist, historian, writer and philosopher. He married Dolores Moya in 1911, and they had four children (Carmen, Belén, María Isabel and Gregorio). Life and work An austere, humanist and liberal man, he is considered one of the most brilliant Spanish intellectuals of the 20th century. Besides his erudition, he also stands out for his elegant literary style. As many other thinkers of his time, he involved himself socially and politically: he was a Republican and fought the Miguel Primo de Rivera dictatorship (he was condemned to jail for a month) and showed his disagreement with Spanish communism. A heart transplant, or a cardiac transplant, is a surgical transplant procedure performed on patients with end-stage heart failure or severe coronary artery disease when other medical or surgical treatments have failed. , the most common procedure is to take a functioning heart, with or without both lungs, from a recently deceased organ donor (brain death is the standard) and implant it into the patient.
