Hospital General De México
The General Hospital of Mexico (Hospital General de México, HGM) is a hospital in Mexico City, operated by the Secretariat of Health, the federal government department in charge of all social health services in Mexico. History Towards the end of the 19th century, Dr. Eduardo Liceaga proposed the construction of a new hospital to fulfill the sanitary needs of the city. The General Hospital began its construction in 1896, with a total budget for the project of four million eight thousand pesos, and was inaugurated on February 5, 1905, by president Gral. Porfirio Díaz. At the time of its opening, there were 600 beds in 18 pavilions and four basic specialities. Around the 1920s and 1930s there was a big medical and scientific development at the hospital, where several branches of medicine developed new resources and procedures for patient care. Eduardo Liceaga
Eduardo Liceaga (1839–1920) was a Mexican physician known as the "most distinguished hygienist of late-nineteenth century Mexico". He was involved in the establishment of the General Hospital of Mexico. Early life and education Liceaga was born on October 13, 1839, in Guanajuato City, Guanajuato City, Guanajuato, the son of Dr. Francisco Liceaga and Trinidad Torres de Liceaga. He was educated at the old College of San Gregorio, Mexico City where he took the first prize in Latin, and later at the College of the State of Guanajuato, winning there prizes and honorable mention. His medical education was received at the National School of Medicine in Mexico City, from which he graduated in 1866. 1985 Mexico City Earthquake
The 1985 Mexico City earthquake struck in the early morning of 19 September at 07:17:50 (CST) with a moment magnitude of 8.0 and a maximal Mercalli intensity of IX (''Violent''). The event caused serious damage to the Greater Mexico City area and the deaths of at least 5,000 people. The sequence of events included a foreshock of magnitude 5.2 that occurred the prior May, the main shock on 19 September, and two large aftershocks. The first of these occurred on 20 September with a magnitude of 7.5 and the second occurred seven months later on 30 April 1986 with a magnitude of 7.0. They were located off the coast along the Middle America Trench, more than away, but the city suffered major damage due to its large magnitude and the ancient lake bed that Mexico City sits on. Hospital General is a metro station along Line 3 of the Mexico City Metro. It is located in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. General information This station transfers to the "S" trolleybus line, which runs between ISSSTE Zaragoza and Chapultepec.
