Chauncey Hosford
Chauncey Osborne Hosford (December 27, 1820 – 1911) was an American pioneer and Methodist missionary in Oregon Country. Biography He was born in Lexington Heights, New York to the highly religious Willis and Lucia Hosford. Hosford came to Oregon in 1845 with his brother Erwin, and worked for Philip Foster. He later boarded with David Leslie and attended the Oregon Institute. In 1847 Hosford convened the first formal religious gatherings in Portland, Oregon. Hosford later traveled to Placerville, California, to search for gold during the California Gold Rush. He made some money, and moved to San Francisco. He returned to Oregon in 1851, and started the first school in Astoria. Hosford continued ministering in various places in Oregon and Vancouver, Washington, and filed a land claim in Marion County. Henry Hosford Gurley (May 20, 1788 – March 16, 1833) was a member of the U. S. House of Representatives representing the state of Louisiana. He served four terms in three parties. Gurley was born in Lebanon, Connecticut, and attended Williams College. He was first elected to Congress as an Adams-Clay Republican, then served two terms as an Adams candidate, and finally served one term as an anti-Jacksonian. A collection of Gurley's papers between 1815 and 1831 is located in the Tulane University Special Collections. Gurley served as a district judge in Louisiana following his term in Congress. Kyle Martin Hosford (born 27 June 1989) is an Irish basketball player. He represented the Irish national team between 2015 and 2022. Irish League career Between 2008 and 2012, Hosford played for UCC Demons in the Irish Super League. Born in Georgia, he served in both the Florida Senate and the Florida House of Representatives. The John Hosford House is a historic octagon house located along U.S. Route 20 in Monroeville, Ohio, United States.
