Horton Park Golf Club
The Horton Park Golf Club was the only golf club located in central Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast in South East Queensland, Australia. The club was situated next to Sunshine Plaza shopping centre and was established in 1950. On the 20 July 1950, the minutes of the first meeting were signed by the President Mr W Coffey. The first building, a shed and an outhouse were purchased and erected in 1952. After the council reclaimed the land, the club moved to a new site in Bli Bli, on the north bank of the Maroochy River, and is now renamed as the Maroochy River Golf Club. Horton Park is being redeveloped by the council as a new CBD and residential area called SunCentral. Course The Horton Park course had 18 championship holes with a flood lit driving range. Australian Open (golf)
The Australian Open, owned and run by Golf Australia, is the oldest and most prestigious golf tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia. The Open was first played in 1904 and takes place toward the end of each year. The winner of the tournament receives the ''Stonehaven Cup'', presented by Lord Stonehaven, the Governor-General of Australia from 1925 to 1930. It was first presented in 1930. Status The Australian Open is the "flagship tournament" of the PGA Tour of Australasia, and until 2022 had a special status in the Official World Golf Ranking's points system. Maroochydore, Queensland
Maroochydore ( ) is a coastal town in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. The town was subdivided from the Cotton Tree reserve by Surveyor Thomas O'Connor in 1903. The land was acquired from William Pettigrew who had a timber depot at what is now Wharf Street. Its name comes from the Yuggera language word ''Muru-kutchi'', meaning red-bill and referring to the black swan, which is commonly seen in the area. Maroochydore is a major commercial area of the Sunshine Coast with most shopping precincts located in the central business district. It is home to the Sunshine Plaza shopping centre and the Sunshine Coast's major bus interchange for TransLink services operated by Sunbus. The Sunshine Coast is a peri-urban region in South East Queensland, Australia. It is the district defined in 1967 as "the area contained in the Shires of Landsborough, Maroochy and Noosa, but excluding Bribie Island". Sunshine Plaza is a large regional shopping centre located in Maroochydore, Queensland, and is the largest shopping centre on the Sunshine Coast. Anchor tenants included in the centre are Coles, Woolworths, Myer, Kmart, Target, Big W, H&M, David Jones, and a 12-screen Birch Carroll & Coyle cinema. The centre is currently managed by Lendlease. History Previously operating under a different structure, the centre began trading in 1980 as ''The Sands Shopping Centre''.
