Horsley, New South Wales
Horsley is a suburb in Wollongong. It is the location of the new Dapto Primary school and a community centre. This suburb has expanded since 1999 and contains many newly developed houses. Geography Horsley has a small shop area. It is surrounded by parkland, skatepark grounds and playing fields to the east (in the narrow area separating it from Dapto, and farmland to the north, west and south. West of Horsley is Mount Bong Bong, part of the Illawarra escarpment range and the Dapto cliffs, providing a towering backdrop. Much of the land about is the last remaining land available to housing developers and much growth is possible. There is a shooting range west of Horsley reached via Bong Bong Road. Demographics As of the 2016 Census Night there were 8,221 persons counted in Horsley, 48.8% were males and 51.2% were females. Of the total population 2.6% were of Indigenous origin. Shellharbour is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is represented by Anna Watson who won Labor preselection after the former member Lylea McMahon decided not to contest the 2011 election. It encompasses part of the City of Shellharbour (east of the South Coast line, as far south as Shell Cove, including Flinders, Shellharbour, Warilla, Barrack Heights, Barrack Point, Oak Flats, Mount Warrigal and Blackbutt) and the southwestern edge of the City of Wollongong (including Dapto, Kanahooka, Koonawarra, Horsley, Penrose and Yallah). Wongawilli, New South Wales
Wongawilli is a southern suburb of Wollongong, Australia at the foot hills of the Illawarra escarpment. The word 'Wonga' is a native aboriginal word meaning native pigeon. It contains a mixture of small rural properties and family homes. It has a New South Wales Rural Fire Service station and a small community hall where the Wongawilli colonial dance club meets regularly. The community has had a long history with coal mining, with the Wongawilli colliery opening in 1916 by the Hoskins Brothers, and later being taken over by BHP. Dapto, New South Wales
Dapto is a suburb of Wollongong in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia, located on the western side of Lake Illawarra and covering an area 7.15 square kilometres in size. As at the , the suburb had a population of 10,730. History The name Dapto is said to be an Aboriginal word either from ''Dabpeto'' meaning "water plenty", or from ''tap-toe'' which described the way a lame Aboriginal elder walked. The suburb was officially founded in 1834, when George Brown transferred the Ship Inn from Wollongong to Mullet Creek Farm, in an area now named in his honour as Brownsville. After an unsuccessful attempt at wheat growing in the 1850s, Dapto embraced the dairy industry. In 1887 the railway opened and a butter factory was established. The Geographical Names Board of New South Wales assigned the name of Huntley to the suburb on 5 August 2005. It had previously been called West Dapto or considered to be part of Avondale. The Lockheed Hudson is a light bomber and coastal reconnaissance aircraft built by the American Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. It was initially put into service by the Royal Air Force shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War and primarily operated by it thereafter.
