Horse Mountain is a high mountain in Lake County, California, United States. Location Horse Mountain is in the Northern California Coast Ranges. It is in Mendocino National Forest in Lake County, California. It drains into the Sacramento River. The mountain is to the east of the West Fork of Middle Creek (Lake County, California), Middle Creek, and west of the Rice Fork of Eel River (California), Eel River. It is north of Elk Mountain (California), Elk Mountain in the Middle Creek drainage basin northwest of Clear Lake (California), Clear Lake. Physical Horse Mountain has an elevation of , with a clean prominence of and an isolation of from the unnamed Peak 4712. This peak in turn has an isolation of from Board Camp Ridge. Horse Mountain is forested, but the summit has been cleared. It is used for recreation by all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes and hikers. California Coast Ranges
The Coast Ranges of California span from Del Norte or Humboldt County, California, south to Santa Barbara County. The other three coastal California mountain ranges are the Transverse Ranges, Peninsular Ranges and the Klamath Mountains. Mendocino National Forest
The Mendocino National Forest is located in the Coastal Mountain Range in northwestern California and comprises 913,306 acres (3,696 km2). It is the only national forest in the state of California without a major paved road entering it. There are a variety of recreational opportunities — camping, hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, backpacking, boating, fishing, hunting, nature study, photography, and off-highway vehicle travel. The forest lies in parts of six counties. In descending order of forestland area they are Lake, Glenn, Mendocino, Tehama, Trinity, and Colusa counties. Middle Creek (Lake County, California)
Middle Creek is a creek that drains through Rodman Slough into Clear Lake in Lake County, California. It supplies 21% of the streamflow to Clear Lake. The watershed vegetation has been drastically modified by European settlers through sheep and cattle grazing, logging and farming in the valley floors. The creek once flowed through extensive wetlands at its mouth, but these were mainly drained to create farmland, apart from Rodman Slough on the west side. There are now projects to restore the drained land to its original condition.
