Horse Lake Thunder
Horse Lake Thunder is a defunct men's Senior ice hockey team that played in the North Peace Hockey League (NPHL). 2004-05 season Former NHL superstar Theoren Fleury played a season with the Horse Lake Thunder in 2004. The 2004 Horse Lake roster also included former NHL players Gino Odjick, Sasha Lakovic and Dody Wood. The Thunder spent millions of dollars on a new arena and players. Senior Ice Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. North Peace Hockey League
The North Peace Hockey League (NPHL) is a Canadian men's Senior ice hockey league based in Northern Alberta and North Eastern British Columbia. History With a history that dates back to the early 1950s, the NPHL has the distinction of being the longest continually running senior hockey league currently in existence in western Canada. The league was down to two teams (Peace River Stampeders and High Prairie Regals) in the early 1970s, when it played an interlocking schedule with the South Peace Hockey League. Prior to the start of the 2009-10 season, the league voted to disallow any team playing AAA hockey from competing in the NPHL playoffs. This change affects teams competing for the Allan Cup. Theoren Fleury
Theoren Wallace "Theo" Fleury (born June 29, 1968) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, author, and motivational speaker. Fleury played for the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL), Tappara of Finland's SM-liiga, and the Belfast Giants of the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League. He was drafted by the Flames in the 8th round, 166th overall, at the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, and played over 1,000 games in the NHL between 1989 and 2003. One of the smallest players of his generation, Fleury played a physical style that often led to altercations. Gino Odjick
Wayne Gino Odjick (September 7, 1970 – January 15, 2023) was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1990 to 2002 for the Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens. Of Algonquin heritage, he was known as an enforcer during his playing career, earning him the nicknames "Algonquin Assassin" and "Maniwaki Mauler". Early life Odjick was born in the Algonquin reserve of Kitigan Zibi just outside the town of Maniwaki, Quebec. Sasha Lakovic
Sasha Gordon Lakovic (September 7, 1971 – April 25, 2017) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played for 17 different professional teams during his career. Lakovic also played for four roller hockey teams in the mid-1990s. Lakovic also had a stint in acting, landing a small role as Russian ice hockey player Boris Mikhailov in the 2004 Disney biopic ''Miracle''. His nicknames were Hitman, Pitbull and Sasha the Basha. Dody Wood
Darin Michael "Dody" Wood (born March 18, 1972) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the third round, 45th overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He dressed for 106 NHL games with the San Jose Sharks before being traded to the New Jersey Devils on December 7, 1997. He was later assigned to the Albany River Rats for the remainder of the 97-98 season. In September 2000, he signed as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks. Wood also played with the IHL's Kansas City Blades, where he was voted most popular player two times as well as winning community service awards. He wore number 16 in his first stint with the team (1992–1995), and 13 when he returned (1998) because someone else already had 16, but returned to 16 later on. 2005 Allan Cup
The 2005 Allan Cup was the Canadian senior ice hockey championship for the 2004–05 senior "AAA" season. The event was hosted by the Lloydminster Border Kings in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan/Alberta. The 2005 tournament marked the 97th year that the Allan Cup has been awarded. This Allan Cup coincided with the 2004-05 NHL lockout which had wiped out the entire 2004-05 NHL season including the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As a result, the tournament enjoyed considerably more media coverage compared to what is typically devoted to the Allan Cup. Thunder Bay Bombers
The Thunder Bay Bombers were a Canadian Senior ice hockey team from Thunder Bay, Ontario. They played an independent schedule under the supervision of Hockey Northwestern Ontario. They were 2005 Allan Cup Canadian National Champions. History The Twins were founded in 2003. A year later, under different management, they changed their name to the Bombers. The name Bombers was inspired by the hockey movie Youngblood and colours by that then worn by the San Jose Sharks. In 2005, after shocking Major League Hockey's Aylmer Blues 2-games-to-none to win the Ontario seed and Renwick Cup, the Bombers went out to Lloydminster and captured the 2005 Allan Cup. The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada.
