Horninglow Railway Station
Horninglow railway station is a disused railway station in Horninglow, a district of Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. History The station was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway in 1848 next to the level crossing of the A38/Derby Road where it entered Burton. The line itself dated back to 1848, and, from 1878 was shared by the Great Northern Railway (Great Britain) with its GNR Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension. The station buildings were more substantial than at Rolleston, being a single storey of half-timbered brick construction. A small waiting room was added on the second platform at the request of the Board of Trade in 1888. It closed to passengers on 1 January 1949. Although the station was no longer used as a stop for the ' Tutbury Jinnie' (as the local Burton-Tutbury passenger service was affectionately known), it continued to be used for occasional holiday excursion trains and the line remained in use for freight until 2 April 1966 when the last train - ...

Horninglow
Horninglow is a suburb of Burton upon Trent in East Staffordshire. Horninglow lies to the north west of Burton, and is linked to the town centre by the A511. It forms part of the civil parish of Horninglow and Eton. History Horninglow is one of the older parishes, shown on maps as early as . Over time its development has increased the size of the area to its current layout. The Church of England parish church of Horninglow is St John the Divine, part of the Diocese of Lichfield. The building dates from 1866; the architect was Edwin Holmes of Birmingham. A United Free Methodist mission chapel was opened in Carlton Street in 1898 and later housed the local doctor's surgery, now housed in a modern building opposite. The Great Northern Railway (GNR) was a British railway company incorporated in 1846 with the object of building a line from London to York. Tutbury Jinnie
Tutbury Jinnie was the name given to a local rail service between the stations at Burton upon Trent and Tutbury. The service consisted, at various times, of up to eight trains on weekdays and two on Sundays. Background Until 1949, the service also served stations at Horninglow, Stretton and Rolleston. Although popular, increased use of road traffic led to the loss-making service being withdrawn at the beginning of the 1960s. The last train was the 20:12 Tutbury-Burton service on 11 June 1960. The last train to use the line was a short freight hauled by a diesel shunter. The track remained in place for some years afterwards, until well into the 1970s. Rolleston-on-Dove Railway Station
Rolleston-on-Dove railway station is a disused railway station built to serve Rolleston on Dove in Staffordshire. History The station was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway in 1894 as simply "Rolleston" but was renamed to avoid confusion with Rolleston Junction station. The line had been opened in 1848 and, from 1878, was shared by the Great Northern Railway (Great Britain) with its GNR Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension . The station was about a mile from the village. It was provided with two brick-built platforms and timber buildings. GNR Derbyshire And Staffordshire Extension
The Derbyshire and Staffordshire extension of the Great Northern Railway was an English railway network built by the GNR to get access to coal resources in the area to the north and west of Nottingham. The Midland Railway had obstructed the GNR in its attempts to secure a share of the lucrative business of transporting coal from the area, and in frustration the GNR built the line. The line was forked: it reached Pinxton in 1875 and a junction with the North Staffordshire Railway at Egginton, approaching Burton on Trent in 1878. The line cut through Derby, resulting in considerable demolition of housing there. West of Derby the line was primarily agricultural; thoughts that a long-distance connection might build up using the line were over-optimistic, although a limited long-distance goods traffic did run. East Staffordshire is a local government district with borough status in Staffordshire in England. It has two main towns: Burton upon Trent and Uttoxeter.
