Christian Horneman
Christian Horneman (15 August 1765 – 7 March 1844) was a Danish miniature and pastels painter, mainly known for portraits. He was the father of the composer Emil Horneman and grandfather of C. F. E. Horneman, also a composer. Biography Horneman was born on 15 August 1765 in Copenhagen. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1780, winning its small silver medal in 1785, and its large silver medal in 1786. In 1787 he went abroad to further his studies and it would take sixteen years before he returned to Denmark. He specialized in portrait miniatures. He experienced the outbreak of the French Revolution first hand in Paris in 1789. He also visited Italy and Vienna, where Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein and Heinrich Füger were among the artists who inspired him. In Berlin he learned a new technique, most likely from Daniel Chodowiecki, which he often used in his later work. Christian Hersleb Horneman
Christian Hersleb Horneman (10 December 1781 – 22 June 1860) was a Norwegian jurist and elected official. He served as a representative at the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly. Christian Hersleb Horneman was born in Trondheim, Norway. He attended Trondheim Cathedral School. In 1801, Horneman earned his Cand. Jur. from the University of Copenhagen. He served as an auditor in Helsingor and at Kronborg Castle. In 1810 he was appointed magistrate and town clerk in Kragerø in Telemark. In 1815, Horneman returned to Trondheim where he served as an assessor for the court over the next forty years. He also served as chairman of the supervisory board of Norges Bank from 1832 to 1848. He represented Kragerø at the Norwegian Constituent Assembly in 1814 where he voted with the independence party (''Selvstendighetspartiet''). Ebbe Carsten Hornemann
Ebbe Carsten Hornemann (21 January 1784 – 1 June 1851) was a Norwegian politician. Hornemann was born in Trondheim, Norway. He was the son of Henrik Horneman (1738–1807) and Abel Margrethe Hersleb (1747–1813). His father was a landowner and Justice. Emil Horneman
Johan Ole Emil Horneman (May 13, 1809 – May 29, 1870) was a Danish composer. He was born in Copenhagen, a son of miniature painter Christian Horneman. Despite his talent for drawing, Christian encouraged him to study music. He was taught by his father and later by Danish pianist and composer Friedrich Kuhlau. In 1837, he was appointed piano teacher at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1842, he published '12 Caprices for Pianoforte' (Op. 1), which was praised by Robert Schumann. Most of his music is piano pieces or songs. Emil's son C.F.E. Horneman also became a composer. He became a good friend to Edvard Grieg while both were students at Leipzig Conservatory. Friedrich Hornemann
Friedrich Conrad Hornemann (15 September 1772 – 1801) was a German explorer in Africa. Hornemann was born in Hildesheim, a city in Lower Saxony, Germany, located about 30 km southeast of Hannover. He was a young man when, early in 1796, he offered his services to the African Association of London as an explorer in Africa. The African Association sent him to the University of Göttingen to study Arabic and otherwise prepare for an expedition from the east into the unknown regions of North Africa. In September 1797 he arrived in Egypt, where he continued his studies. When the country was invaded by the French, he was confined in the citadel of Cairo to preserve him from the fanaticism of the populace. Liberated by the French, he received the patronage of Bonaparte. On 5 September 1798 he joined a caravan returning to the Maghreb from Mecca, attaching himself to a party of Fezzan merchants who accompanied the pilgrims.
