Horizon (store)
Horizon was a Canadian discount department retailer founded in 1972 by T. Eaton Co. Limited. Attempting to compete with established Canadian brands like Woolco and Zellers during a downturn in the market, it was T. Eaton's attempt to court "buyers", as opposed to the "shoppers" courted at its Eaton's stores. Instead, the chain was generally unprofitable, cannibalizing sales from its sister Eaton's stores, and misplaced, according to analysts. Intended to be a 122-store chain, it only reached 18 locations before closing in 1979, less than seven years after opening. The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto was an upper-tier level of municipal government in Ontario, Canada, from 1953 to 1998. The T. Eaton Company Limited, later known as Eaton's, was a Canadian department store chain that was once the largest in the country. It was founded in 1869 in Toronto by Timothy Eaton, an immigrant from what is now Northern Ireland.
