Matthew Timothy Hoppe (born March 13, 2001) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Scottish Premiership club Hibernian, on loan from Middlesbrough, and the United States national team. Club career Youth career and Schalke 04 Hoppe played a single season with the LA Galaxy academy, before being released by the team. After playing for the Barça Residency Academy in Arizona, Hoppe signed with Schalke 04 in June 2019. On November 28, 2020, he made his professional debut for Schalke against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. On January 9, 2021, he scored a hat-trick, and his first senior goals for Schalke, in a league match against Hoffenheim. Wolfgang Hoppe (; born 14 November 1957, Apolda, Thuringia) is a former East German decathlete, bob pilot and 36-time international medal winner who competed from the early 1980s to the late 1990s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he won six medals with two golds (Two-man: 1984, Four-man: 1984), three silvers (Two-man: 1988, Four-man: 1988, 1992), and one bronze (1994). At the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, Hoppe carried the flag of Germany, who was competing as a unified nation in the Winter Olympics for the first time since the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Walter Hoppe
Walter Hoppe (March 21, 1917 – November 3, 1986) was a German physicist and electron microscopist. Walter Hoppe was born in Wallsee-Sindelburg and obtained his doctorate in chemistry at the German University in Prague under Professor J. Boehm. Hoppe became professor and departmental head at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany from 1964 until his retirement in 1985. His most important contributions in the 1960s to 1980s were based on his experience with X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy, from which he derived pioneering theories, including the invention of "ptychography". These led to experimental studies of the practicability of performing high resolution three-dimensional reconstructions of complex biological macromolecules which at that time were not able to be assembled into the crystalline arrays necessary for structural determination by X-ray diffraction (e.g. ribosomes). William Frederick Hoppe (October 11, 1887 – February 1, 1959) (surname rhymes with "poppy"), was an internationally renowned American professional carom billiards champion, who was posthumously inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in 1966. Biography Hoppe was born in Cornwall on Hudson, New York on October 11, 1887. He won 51 world titles between 1906 and 1952, in three forms of carom billiards: three-cushion, (four sub-disciplines of) balkline and one-cushion caroms. Rudolf Hoppe (29 October 1922 – 24 November 2014), a German chemist, discovered the first covalent noble gas compounds. Academic career Hoppe studied chemistry at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel and was awarded his doctorate at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University of Münster in 1954. He also got his habilitation degree in Münster and gained a professorship for inorganic chemistry in 1958. In 1965, Hoppe accepted an offer for the chair of inorganic and analytic chemistry at the Justus-Liebig-University of Gießen, which he kept until his retirement in 1991. Scientific research In Münster Hoppe became famous through his synthesis of the stable noble gas compound XeF2 (xenon difluoride), reported in November 1962. Rolf Hoppe (6 December 1930 – 14 November 2018) was a prolific German stage, cinema, and television actor, who played in more than 400 films in a career which spanned over six decades. Reinhold Hoppe
Ernst Reinhold Eduard Hoppe (November 18, 1816 – May 7, 1900) was a German mathematician who worked as a professor at the University of Berlin. Education and career Hoppe was a student of Johann August Grunert at the University of Greifswald, graduating in 1842 and becoming an English and mathematics teacher. He completed his doctorate in 1850 in Halle and his habilitation in mathematics in 1853 in Berlin under Peter Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet. He also tried to obtain a habilitation in philosophy at the same time, but was denied until a later re-application in 1871. He worked at Berlin as a privatdozent, and then after 1870 as a professor, but with few students and little remuneration. When Grunert died in 1872, Hoppe took over the editorship of the mathematical journal founded by Grunert, the ''Archiv der Mathematik und Physik''. Paul-Werner Hoppe
Paul-Werner Hoppe (28 February 1910 – 15 July 1974) was an SS-Obersturmbannführer (lieutenant colonel) and was the commandant of Stutthof concentration camp from September 1942 until April 1945. Hoppe joined the Nazi Party with membership number 1,596,491. He joined the SS in 1933 (membership number: 116,695). In 1936, he married Charlotte Baranowski, the daughter of Hermann Baranowski, a concentration camp commandant. Hoppe was assigned to the Concentration Camps Inspectorate (Inspektion der Konzentrationslager) under SS-Obergruppenführer Theodor Eicke. He was instrumental in helping Eicke form the Totenkopf Division of the SS in the fall of 1939 and served as Eicke's adjutant. In April 1941, he was given command of an infantry company.
