Hook End Manor
Hook End Recording Studios was a recording studio located in Hook End Manor, a 16th-century Elizabethan house near Checkendon, Oxfordshire, England. History The original studio, Space Studios, was built by Alvin Lee of the band Ten Years After when he first bought the house. Many recordings were made during Lee's tenure, including ''On the Road to Freedom'' (1973), before he sold the house and studio to David Gilmour of the band Pink Floyd, who used the studio to record parts of the band's album '' The Final Cut'' (1983). Gilmour sold the house and studio to Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley. They sold it to Trevor Horn, who turned it into Hookend Productions Ltd. Several major rock bands have recorded albums at the studios. These include Manic Street Preachers' '' Gold Against the Soul'' (1993), The Cure's '' Disintegration'' (1989) and '' Mixed Up'' (1990), and Marillion's '' Seasons End'' (1989) and ''Holidays in Eden ''Holidays in Eden'' is the sixth studio album by ...

Recording Studio
A recording studio is a specialized facility for sound recording, mixing, and audio production of instrumental or vocal musical performances, spoken words, and other sounds. They range in size from a small in-home project studio large enough to record a single singer-guitarist, to a large building with space for a full orchestra of 100 or more musicians. Ideally, both the recording and monitoring (listening and mixing) spaces are specially designed by an acoustician or audio engineer to achieve optimum acoustic properties (acoustic isolation or diffusion or absorption of reflected sound echoes that could otherwise interfere with the sound heard by the listener). Recording studios may be used to record singers, instrumental musicians (e.g., electric guitar, piano, saxophone, or ensembles such as orchestras), voice-over artists for advertisements or dialogue replacement in film, television, or animation, foley, or to record their accompanying musical soundtracks. The typical ...

Recorded at Hook End Manor in Oxfordshire and Westside Studios in London, it was the band's second album with vocalist Steve Hogarth and the first completely written without previous lead singer Fish. Partly due to producer Christopher Neil, many of the songs feature a mainstream pop rock sound as opposed to progressive rock of previous works, and Hogarth has described ''Holidays in Eden'' as "Marillion's 'pop'est album ever". It reached number 7 in the UK Albums Chart. Background Hogarth said in 2012: Release ''Holidays in Eden'' was released in Europe on 24 June 1991 by EMI Records on CD, LP and cassette. It peaked at number 7 in the UK, spending 7 weeks in the charts, and became Marillion's first studio album not to gain any sales certification. The album reached number 7 in the Netherlands and number 10 in Germany. In the U.S., ''Holidays in Eden'' was issu ...

The album was the first to feature current lead vocalist Steve Hogarth, following the departure of former vocalist Fish in late 1988. It reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart. Overview Following the departure of Fish, Marillion started to audition singers while writing the new album, and they eventually chose Steve Hogarth. The music for ''Seasons End'' was mostly written before Hogarth joined Marillion, and only a couple of songs on it actually have some pieces written by him, these being "Easter" and "The Space". A number of the lyrics were written by John Helmer, who the band had commissioned before Hogarth joined. Helmer would continue to contribute lyrics throughout the 1990s. "The Space" was partly recycled from an unreleased song by Hogarth's old band How We Live titled "Wrapped in the Flag". The bonus disc of the 1999 re-issue of '' Clutching at Straws'' contai ...

Disintegration (The Cure Album)
''Disintegration'' is the eighth studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 2 May 1989 by Fiction Records. The record marks a return to the introspective gothic rock style the band had established in the early 1980s. As he neared the age of 30, vocalist and guitarist Robert Smith had felt an increased pressure to follow up on the band's pop successes with a more enduring work. This, coupled with a distaste for the group's newfound popularity, caused Smith to lapse back into the use of hallucinogenic drugs, the effects of which had a strong influence on the production of the album. The band recorded the album at Hookend Recording Studios in Checkendon, Oxfordshire, with co-producer David M. Allen from late 1988 to early 1989. Following the completion of the mixing, founding member Lol Tolhurst was fired from the band. The album became the band's first commercial peak, charting at number three in the United Kingdom and at number 12 in the United States, and produ ...

Gold Against The Soul
''Gold Against the Soul'' is the second studio album by Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. It was released on 21 June 1993 by record label Columbia. Noted for its lyrics reflecting melancholia, ''Gold Against the Soul'' integrated a variation of styles, including funk and grunge. Recording The band stated that the choice to work with Dave Eringa again was important for this album: "We finished work in November and then just went straight into a demo studio and we came out about four weeks later with the album all finished. We were all happy with all the songs, we knew what they wanted to sound like, so we didn't want to use a mainstream producer because they've got their own sound and vision of what a record should be like. So we just phoned Dave up and said 'Look, come down, let's see how this works out', and everyone loved what we were doing, so we decided to stay with him." When asked to look back on the album, the band themselves have described ''Gold ...
