Hooger Op FC Leuven, was a Belgian football club from the city of Leuven, Flemish Brabant that existed between 1924 and 1949, when it ceased to exist and merged into Daring Club Leuven. History The club was founded towards the end of 1923 and officially registered on 23 January 1924 with the Belgian FA. At that point in time, three other teams were already active in Leuven, namely Stade Leuven, Victoria FC Louvain and SC Louvain. Hooger Op started at the Third Provincial Division and would gradually start rising through the divisions, reaching the Belgian Third Division in 1933, at that time the lowest national level of football, where it met Victoria FC Louvain. Hooger Op immediately relegated back into the provincial divisions but was able to return three seasons later, in 1937. This time they were paired with SC Louvain, but again immediately relegated back, never to return at the national level. Daring Club Leuven, was a Belgium, Belgian football club from the city of Leuven, Flemish Brabant that existed between 1922 and 2002, when it merged with K. Stade Leuven, Stade Leuven and F.C. Zwarte Duivels Oud-Heverlee to form Oud-Heverlee Leuven. The club played its home matches in Kessel-Lo. Victoria FC Louvain, was a Belgian football club from the city of Leuven, Flemish Brabant that existed between 1920 and 1945, when it ceased to exist and unofficially merged into Daring Club Leuven. History The club was founded and joined the Belgian FA on 26 May 1920, starting in the Second Provincial Division. In 1926, the club reached the national level for the first time, entering the Belgian Third Division, where it was paired with city rivals Stade Leuven and from 1928 as well with SC Leuven. Together with SC Leuven, Victoria dropped back into the provincial leagues following the 1928–29 season. In 1933 Victoria again returned to the Third Division, now meeting another team from Leuven with Hooger Op FC Leuven. The Belgian Third Division ( nl, Derde klasse, french: Division III) was the third highest level in Football in Belgium, Belgian football. It had two leagues of 18 teams each (Belgian Third Division A, A and Belgian Third Division B, B) at the same level. This competition, originally known as the Belgian Promotion ( nl, Bevordering) was first played in the 1926-27 in Belgian football, 1926-27 season with three leagues, then with four leagues between 1931 and 1952. From 1952 on, only two leagues remained and the competition was named the Third Division. Originally set to 16 clubs, the number of clubs in each division was increased in 2009 to 18 clubs.
