Hong Kong National Badminton Team
The Hong Kong national badminton team is a badminton team that plays for Hong Kong SAR, China in international competitions. The Hong Kong national team won bronze at the 2019 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, also known as the Tong Yun Kai Cup. The women's team were semifinalists at the 2002 Uber Cup. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. 2020 Badminton Asia Team Championships
The 2020 Badminton Asia Team Championships (also known as the 2020 Smart Badminton Asia Manila Team Championship due to sponsorship reasons) was staged at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila, Philippines, from 11 to 16 February 2020. This championships was organized by the Badminton Asia with Philippine Badminton Association as host organiser and sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation. This tournament served as the Asian qualifiers for the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup in Denmark. Competitors could also accumulate points as part of qualification process for 2020 Summer Olympics badminton tournament in Tokyo. 2014 Thomas & Uber Cup
The 2014 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 28th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 25th tournament of the Uber Cup, the badminton team championships for men and women respectively. It was held on 18–25 May 2014 at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi, India. This is the first time India hosted the two cups. The Thomas Cup final featured two teams not expected to make it there as Japan faced Malaysia. In a back-and-forth contest, Japan came out on top by a score of 3 matches to 2, winning their first Thomas Cup. The Uber Cup final featured the top two teams, China and Japan. Backed by wins from the world's top two singles players, China came out on top by a 3–1 score. It was their 13th title overall. Host city selection New Delhi was awarded with this event by Badminton World Federation in April 2013. 2015 Sudirman Cup
The 2015 Sudirman Cup was the fourteenth tournament of the Sudirman Cup. It was held in Dongguan, China. Host city selection Dongguan is the only city to submit a bid for 2015 Sudirman Cup. Badminton World Federation awarded the event to Dongguan during BWF Council Meeting in Athens, Greece. Seedings The seedings for teams competing in the tournament were released on March 5, 2015. It was based on aggregated points from the best players in the world ranking. The tournament was divided into four groups, with twelve teams in the elite group competing for the title. The 2016 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 29th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 26th tournament of the Uber Cup, the premier badminton team championships for men and women respectively. It was held at the Kunshan Sports Centre in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, China. Host city selection Jakarta and Kunshan submitted bids for this championships, the same situation as the bid for 2015 BWF World Championships. Kunshan was named as the host in May 2014 during BWF Council meeting in New Delhi, India. 2017 Sudirman Cup
The 2017 Sudirman Cup (officially known as the 2017 Total BWF Sudirman Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 15th edition of the Sudirman Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF), since its inception in 1989. The tournament was hosted by Gold Coast, Australia, between 21 and 28 May 2017. It was the first time this event was hosted outside Asia and Europe since its establishment in 1989. The 2018 Thomas & Uber Cup (officially known as the 2018 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup) was the 30th edition of the Thomas Cup and the 27th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). Badminton At The 2018 Asian Games – Women's Team
The badminton women's team tournament at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta took place from 19 to 22 August at Istora Gelora Bung Karno. The draw for the team event was held on 16 August. China team was the reigning champion after winning the gold medal in Incheon and Japan led the seeding. Mongolia withdrew from this event. Japan won the gold medal defeating second seed China 3–1 in the final, Indonesia and Thailand shared the bronze medal after losing in the semi-finals. Akane Yamaguchi lost the first match to Chen Yufei from China 21–15 21–12.
