Hong Kah
Hong Kah is a residential precinct in Jurong West, Singapore. It is bounded by the Pan Island Expressway, PIE, Corporation Road, Jurong Canal Drive, Jurong East Avenue 1 and Jurong Town Hall Road. It is named after the former 'Hong Kah Village'. The precinct's HDB flats are under the management of Jurong-Clementi Town Council and the residents are represented in parliament by either Shawn Huang Wei Zhong or Xie Yao Quan, depending on where they stay. Jurong West
Jurong West is a planning area and residential town located in the West Region of Singapore. Jurong West shares boundaries with Tengah in the north, Jurong East in the east, Boon Lay and Pioneer in the south, and Western Water Catchment in the west. Originally a forested area, Jurong West is undergoing rapid development under the ambition of the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to transform it into a fully mature housing estate. History Jurong West originated from the area once called Peng Kang, named after the gambier plantations along Sungei Jurong. Monkey Tree Phenomenon
The monkey tree phenomenon was a social phenomenon in Singapore, which began in September 2007. It arose from the discovery of a callus on a tree in Hong Kah, which appears monkey-like. Some believe the image to be of divine origin, while others have attributed the phenomenon to the effects of pareidolia, whereby random stimuli are perceived as meaningful. The callus has initiated a minor social mania, drawing large crowds to look or pray at the tree. History Beginnings The phenomenon started on 12 September 2007 when an unknown person put up a sign in Chinese on a tree on Jurong West Street 42. The sign read that a monkey had come to the tree three years ago to look for his father, the Monkey God. Yuhua is a subzone region located in the town of Jurong East, Singapore. Yuhua comprises two subzones, Yuhua East and Yuhua West. Taman Jurong is a residential precinct in Jurong West, Singapore. It is one of the oldest residential precincts in Singapore and a division of Jurong GRC, with the area's HDB flats under the management of Jurong-Clementi Town Council and Tharman Shanmugaratnam as the area's MP. Guan Yu (; ), courtesy name Yunchang, was a Chinese military general serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. Along with Zhang Fei, he shared a brotherly relationship with Liu Bei and accompanied him on most of his early exploits. Bukit Panjang is a planning area and residential town located in the West Region of Singapore. A portion of this town is situated on a low-lying elongated hill. The planning area is bounded by Bukit Batok to the west, Choa Chu Kang to the northwest, Sungei Kadut to the north, the Central Water Catchment to the east and Bukit Timah to the south. Bukit Panjang New Town is located at the northern portion of the planning area. Bukit Panjang has an average elevation of 36m/118 ft. Jurong () is a major geographical region located at the south-westernmost point of the West Region of Singapore. Jurong Junior College (JJC) was a junior college located in Jurong West, Singapore. It was the ninth junior college to be established by the Ministry of Education of Singapore. History Jurong Junior College was first situated at West Coast Road. The college started in April 1981 and opened its doors to the first batch of students in 1982. Jurongville Secondary School
Jurongville Secondary School (JVSS) (Chinese: 丰嘉中学) located at Jurong East Avenue 1 was established on 15 December 1993. The pioneer group of 9 teachers, with the addition of 15 more teachers later in the year, formed the nucleus of the new school. The first Principal was Sun Huey Min, who was also the incumbent Principal of Commonwealth Secondary School (CSS) at that time. She served as the school's principal from December 1993 to December 1995. In January 1994, JVSS, housed within Commonwealth Secondary itself, opened its doors to 507 Secondary One pupils, spread over 14 classes - 6 Express, 5 Normal Academic and 3 Normal Technical.
