Honeysuckle (horse)
Honeysuckle (foaled 28 April 2014) a British-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who competes in National Hunt races. In the 2018/19 season she was unbeaten in four races including the Boreen Belle Mares Novice Hurdle, Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle and Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final. In the following season she compiled another perfect record, winning four times and taking the Hatton's Grace Hurdle, Irish Champion Hurdle and David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle. Another four straight wins in the 2020/21 season saw her repeat her victories in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle and the Irish Champion Hurdle before going on to win the Champion Hurdle and the Punchestown Champion Hurdle. Henry de Bromhead (born 28 October 1972) is an Irish horse trainer who specialises in training horses for National Hunt racing. He has trained a number of Grade 1 winners including Sizing John and Honeysuckle, and is based at stables in Knockeen, County Waterford Career He commenced racehorse training in 2000, having taken over the family stable from his father, Harry. De Bromhead spent time learning training with Robert and Sally Alner and Sir Mark Prescott, and worked at Coolmore Stud. He won his first Grade One race as a trainer in 2008 when Sizing Europe won the Irish Champion Hurdle and since then has gone on to have success in Ireland and the UK. Sulamani
Sulamani (April 9, 1999 – February 18, 2017) was an Irish-bred thoroughbred race horse who competed and won in Dubai, Europe and North America. A great-grandson of English Triple Crown champion, Nijinsky, he made his racing debut in April 2002 at age three and finished seventh. Racing in France, he went on to win the prestigious Prix du Jockey Club and was second in the 2002 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. After his Arc placing, he was purchased by Godolphin Racing. As a four-year-old, Sulamani won the Dubai Sheema Classic but finished fourth in the June 2003 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and finished second in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In the United States, he won two important races, the Arlington Million on a disqualification and the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Handicap, before finishing fifth in the 2003 Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park. Odds provide a measure of the likelihood of a particular outcome. They are calculated as the ratio of the number of events that produce that outcome to the number that do not. Dromahane
Dromahane () is a village located south west of the town of Mallow, County Cork, Ireland on the R619 regional road. Centred on a main crossroads, the village overlooks the Blackwater Valley. As of the 2016 census, Dromahane had a population of 959 people. Dromahane is within of the civil parish of Kilshannig. In horse racing a maiden race is an event for horses that have not won a race. Horses that have not won a race are referred to as maidens. Maiden horse races are held over a variety of distances and under conditions with eligibility based on the sex or age of the horse. Races may be handicaps, set weights, or weight for age. In many countries, maiden races are the lowest level of class and represent an entry point into a racing career. In countries such as the United States, maiden special weight races rank above claiming races, while maiden claiming races allow the horse to be claimed (bought) by another owner. Point-to-point (steeplechase)
A point-to-point is a form of horse racing over fences for hunting horses and amateur riders. In Ireland, where the sport is open to licensed professional trainers, many of the horses will appear in these races before they compete in National Hunt races. Consequently, the Irish point-to-point is more used as a nursery for future young stars: a horse that wins its debut point-to-point in Ireland will often sell for a high price. Whilst professional trainers are specifically excluded from running horses in point-to-points in Great Britain (other than their own personal horses), the days of the farmer running his hunter at the local point-to-point have gone (replaced to some extent by hunter chases). Mastery (foaled 25 February 2006) is a British Thoroughbred racehorse. In a racing career which lasted from October 2008 until 2010 he ran thirteen times and won five races. As a three-year-old in 2009 he won the Derby Italiano and the St Leger. In 2010 he won the Hong Kong Vase. Background Mastery is a bay horse sired by Sulamani the winner of several major races including the Prix du Jockey Club and the International Stakes. His dam Moyesii won only one minor race but was a daughter of the Haydock Sprint Cup and Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Cherokee Rose. Racing career 2008: two-year-old season Mastery made his debut in a maiden race at Nottingham in October 2008. Canadian International Stakes
The Canadian International Stakes is a Grade I stakes race for thoroughbred racehorses three years of age and up on Turf. It is held annually in October at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. International Stakes
The International Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at York over a distance of 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 56 yards (2,063 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event was devised by Major Leslie Petch, a former Clerk of the Course at York. It was first run in 1972, but by this time Petch had resigned from his position due to ill health. The race was originally sponsored by Benson and Hedges and called the Benson and Hedges Gold Cup. The inaugural running was won by Roberto, that year's Derby winner. The second-placed horse was Brigadier Gerard – his only defeat in a career of eighteen races.
