Section 377A (Singapore)
Section 377A is a Singaporean law that criminalises sex between consenting adult males. It was introduced under British colonial rule in 1938 when added to the Penal Code by the colonial government. It remained part of the Singapore body of law after the Penal Code review of October 2007 that removed most of the other provisions in Section 377. On 29 November 2022, the Parliament of Singapore passed a bill to repeal Section 377A. The law, while retained ''de jure'' in the Penal Code, has for many years been ''de facto'' unenforced – there has been no convictions for sex between consenting male adults in decades. While a small number of people were convicted under the section for private consensual acts between adults from 1988 until 2007, enforcement effectively ceased outright following the Penal Code review, despite retention of section 377A. On 28 February 2022, the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Singapore reaffirmed that 377A could not be used to prosecute men f ...

Human Male Sexuality
Human male sexuality encompasses a wide variety of feelings and behaviors. Men's feelings of attraction may be caused by various physical and social traits of their potential partner. Men's sexual behavior can be affected by many factors, including evolved predispositions, individual personality, upbringing, and culture. While most men are heterosexual, significant minorities are homosexual or varying degrees of bisexual. Sexual attraction Physical factors Research indicates that men tend to be attracted to young women with bodily symmetry. Facial symmetry, femininity, and averageness are also linked with attractiveness. Men typically find female breasts attractive and this holds true for a variety of cultures. A preference for lighter-skinned women has been documented across many cultures. Women with a relatively low waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) are considered more attractive. The exact ratio varies among cultures, depending on the WHR of the women in the local c ...

LGBT Rights In Singapore
The rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Singapore have evolved over the decades. Homosexuality is legal for both males and females, with the former being officially legalised in 2022 after being ''de jure'' decriminalised since 2007 and the latter having always been legal. Prior to 2022, same-sex sexual activity between males were ''de jure'' illegal under the British colonial-era Section 377A of the Penal Code. The law had been ''de facto'' unenforced for decades. Sexual activity between women was always legal. In February 2022, the Court of Appeal in the Supreme Court reaffirmed that 377A cannot be used to prosecute men for having sex with other men, and that it is "unenforceable in its entirety". On 21 August 2022, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that the Government intended to repeal Section 377A of the Penal Code, effectively ending criminalisation both ''de facto'' and ''de jure''. On 22 August 2022, Home Affairs and Law Minist ...

LGBT History In Singapore
There is a long history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender activity in Singapore. Male homosexuality was outlawed under British rule (1819–1942; 1946–1959), despite being acknowledged among the local population. Following Japanese occupation during World War II and the country gaining independence, homosexuality and transvestism were visible as a street scene, and from the 1970s were catered for in some nightclubs. In that decade also, Singapore became a centre of gender-reassignment surgery. Concerns over HIV arose after cases were reported in the 1980s. During the 1990s, police clamped down on manifestations of homosexuality due to the stigma of HIV, leading to the growth of a gay movement. Male homosexuality was made legal in the country again in 2022, after the British colonial-era law Section 377A was repealed by the government. Pre-colonial period (up to 1819) Relatively little is known about pre-colonial Singapore, let alone the history of homosexuali ...
