Homosexuality In American Football
There has been only one player who has publicly come out as gay or bisexual while being an active player in the National Football League (NFL): Carl Nassib, who revealed himself as gay on June 21, 2021. He later became the first openly gay player in an NFL playoff game on January 15, 2022. Six former NFL players have come out publicly after they retired. Michael Sam was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft, and thus became the first publicly gay player drafted in the league, but was released before the start of the regular season. He became the first publicly gay player to play in the Canadian Football League in August 2015. Carl Paul Nassib (born April 12, 1993) is a former American football defensive end and linebacker who played in the NFL for seven seasons. He played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions football, Penn State Nittany Lions, earning unanimous All-American honors as a senior in 2015. Vince Lombardi
Vincent Thomas Lombardi (June 11, 1913 – September 3, 1970) was an American football coach and executive in the National Football League (NFL). The National Women's Football Association (NWFA) was a full-contact American football league for women headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. The Philadelphia Liberty Belles are a team of the Women's Football Alliance which began play for its inaugural 2009 season.
