Conrad Hommel (16 February 1883 – 11 November 1971) was a German painter. He was best known for his portraits of leading German entrepreneurs such as Max Grundig, Herbert Quandt, and politicians such as Adolf Hitler, Hermann Göring and Paul von Hindenburg. Life Hommel was born in Mainz, where his father was a counselor. His sister married Albert Friedrich Speer and would be the mother of architect Albert Speer. Hommel married Carolina Schultheiss (1869–1938), divorced of the painter Georg Schuster Woldan, in 1908. Jane Franklin Hommel Denney (1878–1946), clubwoman, was president of the Tennessee Federation of Women's Clubs, in Knoxville, Tennessee, US. Biography She was born May 12, 1878, as Jane Franklin Hommel, the daughter of Daniel C. Hommel and Sarah Havely of Knoxville, Tennessee. She attended East Tennessee Institute for her education. She married George W. Denney on October 3, 1899; they had one son, Joseph F. Denney. Mrs. Denney was a member of the Suffrage Club of Knoxville, and served as chair of the Women's Congress of the Appalachian Exposition in 1911. Johann Hommel (also ''Johannes Homelius'', ''Hummelius'', ''Homilius'', ''Hummel''; 2 February 1518, Memmingen – 4 July 1562, Leipzig) was a German astronomer and mathematician. Work Hommel was appointed professor of mathematics at the University of Leipzig in 1551. In 1552 or 1553, Richard Cantzlar introduced transversal dot lines in graduations. Hommel is a lunar impact crater located in the southeast section of the Moon, in a region that is deeply impacted with a multitude of impact craters. The most notable craters nearby are Pitiscus to the north; Rosenberger due east; and Nearch to the southeast. The prominent crater Vlacq is nearly attached to the northeast rim. Also nearby is Asclepi to the west. Hommel is about 120 kilometers in diameter and its walls reach heights of 2,800 meters. The hummel (also hommel or humle) is an old Northern European stringed instrument similar to an older type of zither and is related to the Norwegian langeleik. The name is thought to come from the German word ''hummel'', meaning "bumblebee", referring to the droning sound created by the accompaniment strings. History The hummel is probably from the Middle Ages, when it was found all over Europe in slightly differing variants. The instrument was common in the Netherlands, Flanders, Northern Germany and Denmark during the 18th century. The earliest evidence of the instrument in Swedish folk culture is from the 17th century, and it seems to have been most common in the southern parts of the country.
