"Homesick" is the fourth and final single from the Vines' debut album ''Highly Evolved ''Highly Evolved'' is the debut studio album by Australian alternative rock band The Vines. Craig Nicholls
Craig Robert Nicholls (born 31 August 1977) is an Australian musician, best known as the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the Australian alternative rock band The Vines, of which he is the sole continuous member. Early life Nicholls was born in Sydney. Terry Nicholls, his father, was the guitarist and vocalist in a 1960s group named The Vynes. He later worked as an accountant for Sony Music Australia. Nicholls has an older brother, Matt, an older sister, Tara, who is a solicitor, and a younger sister, Jessica. Nicholls' father taught him to play guitar during childhood. He spent his free time listening to The Beatles, painting artworks, and skateboarding. He stated, "I grew up a loner... I never socialised. I stayed at home and listened to music all day. Highly Evolved (song)
"Highly Evolved" is the opening track and first Australian single from the Vines' debut album of the same name. The song was written by the group's lead guitarist and vocalist, Craig Nicholls. It was issued as a single via Capitol Records, in April 2002, ahead of the album, which appeared in August. Critical reviews "Highly Evolved" was single of the week in March 2002 in ''NME''. In the magazine's review, James Oldham stated that it is "scorched, ragged and super heavy, "Highly Evolved" takes 'Bleach'-era Nirvana as its starting point and then proceeds to compress the whole of Kurt Cobain's career into a blistering minute and a half. It's a totally brilliant record. Chris Dahlen of ''Pitchfork'' described the song as being "fine grunge, switching from bare strumming to throbbing, jagged, yet infectious guitar lines." Hamish Rosser
Hamish Rosser (born 16 May 1974) is an Australian rock musician. He is best known for his time in The Vines and his current position in Wolfmother. Early life Hamish’s musical journey began when he took up the guitar at the age of eight. By the time he turned eleven he had switched to drums and bought his first set of drums with money saved up from a paper round in his Sydney neighbourhood. Rosser's first gig was with high school punk band called "The Warthogs" who covered The Clash, The Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Rosser studied chemical engineering at Sydney University and stayed there for four years until he left to pursue a career as a musician. Career Rosser was asked to join The Vines to replace the band's previous drummer, David Oliffe. He left the Vines, along with guitarist Ryan Griffiths, in December 2011. Ryan Griffiths (born 14 February 1978) is an Australian musician. From March 2002 to December 2011 he was a member of garage rock band, The Vines. Craig Nicholls, who founded the group, realised while touring for the promotion of their debut album, ''Highly Evolved'' (July 2002), that they needed an additional guitarist. So Nicholls asked his longtime friend and schoolmate Griffiths to join. As a member of The Vines he appeared on four of their studio albums, ''Winning Days'' (March 2004), ''Vision Valley'' (April 2006), '' Melodia'' (July 2008) and '' Future Primitive'' (June 2011). During his tenure Griffiths provided guitars ( acoustic, rhythm or lead), keyboards, percussion and backing vocals before leaving, along with their drummer, Hamish Rosser, in December 2011. "Get Free" is a song by the Australian garage rock band the Vines from their debut album ''Highly Evolved''.
