Homer L. Lyon
Homer Le Grand Lyon (March 1, 1879 – May 31, 1956) was a U.S. Representative from North Carolina. Born in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, Lyon attended the public schools, the Davis Military School, Winston, North Carolina, and the law department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was admitted to the bar in 1900 and commenced practice in Whiteville, North Carolina. He served as delegate to every Democratic State convention from 1901 to 1921. He served as delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1904 and 1940. He served as solicitor of the eighth judicial district of North Carolina 1913-1920. Lyon was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-seventh and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1921 – March 3, 1929). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1928. Elizabethtown, North Carolina
Elizabethtown is a town in Bladen County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,583 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bladen County. History Some hold Elizabethtown is named for Elizabeth, the wife of George Carteret, while others believe it was named for the love interest of a local landowner. In the 1970s Elizabethtown more than doubled its size through annexation, increasing from about 1400 square feet to 3700 square feet in area. The Mt. Whiteville, North Carolina
Whiteville is a city in Columbus County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,394 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Columbus County and is the county seat. History Columbus County was created in 1808. In 1810, a community was platted on land owned by James B. White for the purpose of creating a county seat and establishing government buildings. It was originally known as White's Crossing before being incorporated under its present name in 1832. A post office called Whiteville has been in operation since 1821. The town was sacked by Union forces during the latter stages of the American Civil War. In 1950, Whiteville fielded a professional minor league baseball team in the Class D Tobacco State League.
