Homenetmen Beirut (basketball)
Homenetmen Beirut ( ar, نادي الهومنتمن; ), or simply Homenetmen, is the basketball department of Homenetmen, a Lebanese-Armenian multi-sports club based in Beirut, Lebanon. The club was established in 1924 in Beirut and is part of the worldwide pan-Armenian Homenetmen association. Homenetmen Beirut was founded in 1924, and is one of the oldest teams in the league. It won its first Lebanese League Championship in 2018, with coach Joe Moujaes, in a final against Riyadi Club. Homenetmen Beirut has a long-running program for basketball in the Lebanese Basketball League for both men and women and has been one of the pioneers of the sports from the day of its foundation in 1918. Lebanese Basketball League
The Lebanese Basketball League is the top-tier professional men's basketball league in Lebanon. It is organized annually as a national championship with playoffs and a national cup by the Lebanese Basketball Federation (FLB). Currently, the league consists of 12 teams, of which six are located in Beirut. The most successful club in the history of the league is Al Riyadi who have won a record 16 championships. History The initial Lebanese basketball league was formed in as early as the 1950s; however, it was stopped during the Lebanese Civil War. In 1992, the league was reformed into a fully professional format. In 1997, Sporting Club (Al Riyadi) finished as Lebanese champions, allowing them to participate in the 1998 FIBA Asia Champions Cup . There, they finished 3rd place. Fadi El Khatib
Fadi El Khatib ( ar, فادي الخطيب; born January 1, 1979), nicknamed "the Lebanese Tiger", is a Lebanese professional basketball player who plays in the Lebanese Basketball League for Sagesse. El Khatib played for several teams in the Lebanese Basketball League, and also played abroad in Syria, Ukraine and China. He was also a member of the Lebanon national team that finished runners-up in the FIBA Asia Championship three times, in 2001, 2005 and 2007. El Khatib also participated in the FIBA World Championship in 2002, 2006 and 2010. Professional career El Khatib began playing professionally in 1997, aged 17, at Sagesse, staying with them until 2004. Nathaniel Cornelius Robinson (born May 31, 1984) is an American former professional basketball player. Michael Rene Taylor (born January 21, 1986) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Chipola College and Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball, Iowa State. Justin Tubbs
Justin Tubbs (born November 19, 1987) is an American professional basketball player who is currently playing for Beirut Club of the Lebanese Basketball League. He was selected by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers as the 115th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Development League Draft. Tubbs played at the collegiate level with Alabama and East Tennessee State, known as one of the best pure athletes in the Atlantic Sun Conference following his transfer. Sam Thompson
Samuel Luther "Big Sam" Thompson (March 5, 1860 – November 7, 1922) was an American professional baseball player from 1884 to 1898 and with a brief comeback in 1906. Norvel Pelle Jr. (born February 3, 1993) is an Antiguan professional basketball player for Shahrdari Gorgan of the Iranian Basketball Super League (IBSL). A , center, he played at three different high schools in the Los Angeles area and was ranked as one of the top recruits in his class. Ater James "AJ" Majok (born 4 July 1987) is a professional basketball player for Al Riyadi Club Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2011 NBA draft with the 58th overall pick. He represents Lebanon internationally. High school and college career Majok was born in Sudan in 1987.
