The Homeland Defenders Party ( ar, حزب حماة الوطن) is a centrist political party in Egypt. It was founded in 2013 by Galal Haridy and a group of retired officers. In an interview in December 2013, about half a year after al-Sisi's military coup, Haridy expressed support for the "efforts made by the army and police in confronting terrorism." Centrism is a political outlook or position involving acceptance or support of a balance of social equality and a degree of social hierarchy while opposing political changes that would result in a significant shift of society strongly to the left or the right. 2013 Egyptian Coup D'état
The 2013 Egyptian coup d'etat took place on 3 July 2013. Egyptian army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi led a coalition to remove the democratically elected President of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, from power and suspended the Egyptian constitution of 2012. The move came after the military's ultimatum for the government to "resolve its differences" with protesters during widespread national protests. The military arrested Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood leaders, and declared Chief Justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court Adly Mansour as the interim president of Egypt.
