Homeboykris
Homeboykris (foaled February 13, 2007, died May 21, 2016) was a racehorse bred in Maryland in the United States. A son of Roman Ruler, he was purchased privately by a group headed by restaurateur Louis Lazzinnaro that included Major League Baseball executive and manager Joe Torre and turned over to Richard Dutrow Jr., for training. Lazzinnaro purchased Homeboykris from Brenda Tabraue after he broke his maiden at Calder Race Course. Dutrow is known for conditioning the Dual Classic winner Big Brown. Homeboykris was one of three winners from as many starters out of stakes-place winner One Last Salute, by Salutely. His sire was Roman Ruler, a son of Mr. Prospector. Homeboykris' most important win was the 2009 Grade I Champagne Stakes, which he won by 1 1/2 lengths over Discreetly Mine. Roman Ruler (horse)
Roman Ruler (March 20, 2002 – January 25, 2017) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, winner of the 2005 Haskell Invitational. Career Roman Ruler's first race was on June 19, 2004, at Hollywood Park Racetrack, where he won on his debut. He followed it up with a win at the 2004 Best Pal Stakes on August 15, 2004. He then captured his third win of the year on October 3, 2004, in the Norfolk Stakes. Ruler's next win came on July 4, 2005, in the Dwyer Stakes and on August 7, 2005, he won the 2005 Haskell Invitational. He finished his career off with a second-place finish in the Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap, before retiring. Due to his successful year in 2005, he ranked 22nd place in the Top 100 Rankings. Champagne Stakes (United States)
The Champagne Stakes is an American Grade I Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old horses. The race is run at a distance of one mile on the dirt at Belmont Park in October each year. Although the race is open to both colts and fillies, in practice it is New York's premier race for two-year-old colts and fillies enter the Frizette Stakes instead. The race is a Road to the Kentucky Derby Prep Season qualifying race. The winner receives 10 points toward qualifying for the Kentucky Derby. The race is also a part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series. The winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The race was first run in 1867, and it is the oldest race of its kind in the United States. It was given the same name as the British Champagne Stakes which has been run annually since 1823 at the Doncaster Racecourse in South Yorkshire, England. Discreetly Mine is an American thoroughbred race horse. Foaled in 2007, he won the Risen Star Stakes in February 2010, making him a contender for the 2010 Kentucky Derby in which he finished thirteenth. Background Bred in Kentucky by E. Paul Robsham, Discreetly Mine was sired by Mineshaft (by A.P. Indy), who was voted the 2003 American Horse of the Year. He is out of Pretty Discreet, a Grade I winner of the Alabama Stakes, herself a daughter of Private Account. This makes Discreetly Mine a half brother to Co-World Champion 3-Year-Old (2006) Discreet Cat (by Forestry). Discreetly Mine was raced by E. Paul Robsham Stables, LLC and trained by Todd Pletcher. Joseph Paul Torre (; born July 18, 1940) is an American professional baseball executive, serving as a special assistant to the Commissioner of Baseball since 2020. He previously served in the capacity of Major League Baseball's (MLB) chief baseball officer from 2011 to 2020. Pimlico Race Course
Pimlico Race Course is a thoroughbred horse racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, most famous for hosting the Preakness Stakes. Its name is derived from the 1660s when English settlers named the area where the facility currently stands in honor of Olde Ben Pimlico's Tavern in London. The racetrack is nicknamed "Old Hilltop" after a small rise in the infield that became a favorite gathering place for thoroughbred trainers and race enthusiasts. It is currently owned by the Stronach Group. History Pimlico officially opened in the October 25, 1870, with the colt Preakness winning the first running of the Dinner Party Stakes. Barbaro (horse)
Barbaro (April 29, 2003 – January 29, 2007) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2006 Kentucky Derby but shattered his leg two weeks later in the Preakness Stakes which ended his racing career and eventually led to the need to euthanize him. On May 20, 2006, Barbaro ran in the Preakness Stakes as a heavy favorite, but, after a false start, he fractured three bones in and around the fetlock of his right hind leg. The injury ruined any chance of a Triple Crown in 2006 and ended his racing career. The next day, he underwent surgery at the New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania for his injuries. In July he developed laminitis in his left rear foot. The 2006 Kentucky Derby was the 132nd running of the Kentucky Derby. The race took place on May 6, 2006 and was won by Barbaro. There was a crowd of 157,532 in attendance.
