Home Of The Year
Home of the Year is an Irish property reality television series which has been broadcast on RTÉ One since 2015. Format The format of the series follows three judges visiting three different homes every week and each scoring them out of ten. At the end of each episode the house which has scored the most points advances to the final. After seven weeks, the seven winning houses are judged one last time with the overall winner announced at the end of the episode. Judges Architect, Hugh Wallace is the only judge who has appeared in every single season of the show. Season one, saw Wallace joined by, architect, Declan O'Donnell and textiles and homeware designer, Helen James. Season two and three saw Wallace and O'Donnell return for a second and third year in a row. Interior designer, Deirdre Whelan replaced James as a judge. RTÉ One
RTÉ One ( ga, RTÉ a hAon) is an Irish free-to-air flagship television channel owned and operated by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). It is the most-popular and most-watched television channel in the country and was launched as ''Telefís Éireann'' on 31 December 1961, it was renamed ''RTÉ'' in 1966, and it was renamed as RTÉ 1 upon the launch of RTÉ 2 in 1978. It is funded partly by the government's licence fee; the remainder of the funding is provided by commercial advertising. Because RTÉ is funded partly by the licence fee it shows considerably fewer advertisements than most other channels available in Ireland and Northern Ireland. RTÉ One is available to 98% of the Irish population in HD on the Saorview DTT service. It is also available in Northern Ireland via Saorview, Freeview, Sky, and cable provider Virgin Media. David Norris (politician)
David Patrick Bernard Norris (born 31 July 1944) is an Irish scholar, independent Senator and civil rights activist. Internationally, Norris is credited with having "managed, almost single-handedly, to overthrow the anti-homosexuality law which brought about the downfall of Oscar Wilde", a feat he achieved in 1988 after a fourteen-year campaign. He has also been credited with being "almost single-handedly responsible for rehabilitating James Joyce in once disapproving Irish eyes". Norris is a former university lecturer and a member of the Oireachtas, serving in Seanad Éireann since 1987. He was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in Ireland. A founder of the Campaign for Homosexual Law Reform, he is also a prominent member of the Protestant Church of Ireland. He was a candidate for President of Ireland in the October 2011 election. John Boyne
John Boyne (born 30 April 1971) is an Irish novelist. He is the author of eleven novels for adults and six novels for younger readers. His novels are published in over 50 languages. His 2006 novel ''The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'' was adapted into a 2008 film of the same name. Biography Boyne was born in Dublin, where he still lives to this day. His first short story was published by the ''Sunday Tribune'' and in 1993 was shortlisted for a Hennessy Literary Award. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin (BA) and the University of East Anglia (MA), in 2015 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of East Anglia. Eleanor McEvoy
Eleanor McEvoy (born 22 January 1967) is an Irish singer-songwriter. She composed the song "Only a Woman's Heart", title track of '' A Woman's Heart'', the best-selling Irish album in Irish history. Early life and beginnings McEvoy's life as a musician began at the age of four when she began playing piano. At the age of eight she took up violin. Upon finishing school she attended Trinity College Dublin where she studied music by day and worked in pit orchestras and music clubs by night. McEvoy graduated from Trinity with an Honors Degree in music in 1988, and spent four months busking in New York City. In 1988, she was accepted into the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra where she spent four years before leaving to concentrate on songwriting. Robert Ballagh
Robert Ballagh (born 22 September 1943) is an Irish artist, painter and designer. He was born in Dublin and studied architecture at the Bolton Street College of Technology. His painting style was strongly influenced by pop art. He is particularly well known for his hyperrealistic renderings of well known Irish literary, historical or establishment figures. Ballagh grew up in a ground-floor flat on Elgin Road in Ballsbridge, the only child of a Catholic mother and a Presbyterian father who converted to Catholicism, both of whom had played sport for Ireland. He became an atheist while being educated at St Michael's College and Blackrock College. Before turning to art as a profession, he was a professional musician with the showband Chessmen. Lorraine Keane
Lorraine Keane (born 1972 or 1973) is an IFTA-nominated Irish broadcaster and journalist. She is best known as the entertainment news correspondent for TV3 and presenter of the daily entertainment show Xpose. Keane announced her departure from the show on 21 April 2009. Mike Ross (rugby Union)
Mike Ross (born 21 December 1979) is a retired Irish rugby union footballer who played prop for Irish club Leinster and the Ireland national rugby team. He attended St. Colman's College, Fermoy, as a day-boy from 1992 to 1998, and he played his club rugby at this time with Fermoy RFC. The former UCC and Cork Constitution player made the move from Munster and played for three years at the highest level in England, making his name in the English Premiership with Harlequins. Following a move to Leinster, he featured in a number of Ireland squads and lined out for the Wolfhounds, as well as making his debut for the National team on the 2009 Summer tour to Canada and the USA. Eoghan McDermott (born 15 April 1983) is an Irish television and radio presenter. He most recently presented ''The RTÉ 2fm Breakfast Show'' on radio and has hosted ''The Voice of Ireland'' and Ireland's Junior Eurovision Song Contest selection shows on television. Stereophonic
Stereophonic sound, or more commonly stereo, is a method of sound reproduction that recreates a multi-directional, 3-dimensional audible perspective. This is usually achieved by using two independent audio channels through a configuration of two loudspeakers (or stereo headphones) in such a way as to create the impression of sound heard from various directions, as in natural hearing. Because the multi-dimensional perspective is the crucial aspect, the term ''stereophonic'' also applies to systems with more than two channels or speakers such as quadraphonic and surround sound. Norah Casey
Norah Casey (born 28 May 1960) is an Irish businesswoman, magazine publisher, television personality and broadcaster from Dublin, Ireland. Early life Norah Casey grew up in a lodge in the Phoenix Park, her father and grandfather were park rangers. Growing up, Casey worked for a period of time in the quarantine section of Dublin Zoo helping to raise gorillas. Casey cites this early experience with animals as the foundation for her love of animals.
