Home Hardware (previously known as Home Timber & Hardware) is an Australian retail hardware chain. It is Australia's third-biggest hardware chain after Bunnings Warehouse and Mitre 10, the latter of which is its parent company. Home is known for its distinctive advertisements with two animated dog mascots: Rusty (voiced by Vic Plume) and Sandy (voiced by Greg Fleet), often making fun of or pointing out perceived flaws of another unnamed hardware store — usually implied to be Bunnings. Home nicknames its catalogues "dogalogues", in reference to Rusty and Sandy. Home Hardware sells paint, general hardware, power tools and garden products to the DIY market. The brand was launched in 1993 by manufacturing and wholesaler John Danks & Son following the merger of the Homestead and Homesaver brands while in South Australia, they also absorbed a few Lloyds & Banner stores. Mitre 10
Mitre 10 is an Australian retail and trade hardware store chain. Operations are based on a cooperative system, where the store owners are members of the national group and each has voting rights. The chain name references the mitre joint. There are over 400 "Mitre 10" and its associated "True Value Hardware" franchises throughout Australia. History The move to set up a co-operative group of hardware stores originated from a meeting of seven men who would become Mitre 10's founders – Tom Molomby, Tom Danaher, Reg Buchanan, Jack Womersley, Ian Nisbet, Bill Davey and Bill Wilson – held at Buchanan's home in Balwyn, Victoria, on 29 June 1959. John Danks & Son
John Danks & Son was a major manufacturing company in Melbourne, Victoria and Sydney, New South Wales. History John Danks (January 1828 – 28 February 1902) was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England. He served an apprenticeship with his father, also named John Danks, a manufacturer of wrought iron tubing, then joined his brothers Samuel and Thomas, who were setting up a similar factory. In 1857 the brothers emigrated to Melbourne in the ''Shaftesbury'', and started manufacturing iron pipes and plumbing fittings; one of their first major contracts was to manufacture connectors for Melbourne's pioneering Yan Yean Reservoir. Bunnings Group Limited, trading as Bunnings Warehouse or Bunnings, is an Australian household hardware chain. The chain has been owned by Wesfarmers since 1994, and has stores in Australia and New Zealand. Bunnings was founded in Perth, Western Australia in 1886, by two brothers who had emigrated from England. Initially, a limited company focused on sawmilling, it became a public company in 1952 and subsequently expanded into the retail sector, purchasing several hardware stores. Bunnings began to expand into other states in the 1990s and opened its first warehouse-style store in Melbourne in 1994. As of 2020, the chain has 375 stores and over 30,000 employees. Gregory Fleet is an Australian comedian and actor. History Early life Fleet was born in Michigan, in the United States. His father moved the family to Australia when Greg was four. He grew up in Geelong, and as a teenager boarded at Geelong Grammar School.
