Home Insurance Plaza
Home Insurance Plaza is a tall skyscraper at 59 Maiden Lane in the Financial District of Manhattan, New York City. It was completed in 1966 and has 44 floors. Alfred Easton Poor designed the structure, while the plaza was redeveloped in 1987 by Kohn Pedersen Fox. The plaza is the home of ''Liberty'', a mural by Julie Harvey. Simple in its concept, it illustrates that New York's present was built upon the foundations its forefathers placed many years ago. The Statue of Liberty is reflected in the mirrored facade of a skyscraper. Early 19th century New York emerges revealing the cobblestone streets, horses and carriages, gentlemen with top hats, and ships in the seaport. Harvey has also included the old shipping barrels, lamp posts and even pigs that ran freely around Lower Manhattan. Alfred Easton Poor
Alfred Easton Poor (May 24, 1899 – January 13, 1988) was an American architect noted particularly for buildings and projects in New York City and in Washington, D.C., for the U.S. government. A son of Charles Lane Poor, Alfred Poor served in the U.S. Navy in World War I and in the U.S. Navy Reserve in World War II. As a student at the University of Pennsylvania, he studied under Paul Philippe Cret. Poor served as the president of the National Academy of Design in New York from 1966 to 1977, organizing its 150th anniversary in 1975. He has been called "one of America's most prominent twentieth century architects" and a "prominent member of the international school of modern architecture." Emporis GmbH was a real estate data mining company that was headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. The company collected data and photographs of buildings worldwide, which were published in an online database from 2000 to September 2022. Maiden Lane is an east–west street in the Financial District of the New York City borough of Manhattan. Julie Harvey (born September 30, 1963 in United States) is a contemporary art painter, multimedia producer, video director and choreographer. She lives and works in New York City. Life and work Harvey graduated BFA, magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University and received her MFA from Parsons School of Design in New York. Harvey has exhibited her paintings with the Bernarducci Meisel Gallery, Kathleen Cullen, and Kenise Barnes, among others. The New York State Comptroller is an elected constitutional officer of the U.S. state of New York and head of the New York state government's Department of Audit and Control.
