Home (Joe Diffie Song)
"Home" is a song written by Fred Lehner and Andy Spooner, and recorded by American country music singer Joe Diffie as his debut single. It was released in August 1990 as the lead-off single from his debut album ''A Thousand Winding Roads''. "Home" rose to the top of all three major country format charts that were in existence at the time — '' Billboard'', '' Radio & Records'' (now known as ''Mediabase 24/7''), and the now-defunct '' Gavin Report'' — marking the first time in chart history that a country singer's debut single had done so. It also peaked at number 1 on the Canadian ''RPM'' Country Tracks chart. Content Diffie said the song stirred strong emotions. "I think everybody related to it, regardless of whether they were raised in the country or city, because everybody has a home in their memory." Joe Diffie
Joe Logan Diffie (December 28, 1958 – March 29, 2020) was an American country music singer and songwriter. After working as a demo singer in the mid 1980s, he signed with Epic Records' Nashville division in 1990. Between then and 2004, Diffie charted 35 singles on the '' Billboard'' Hot Country Songs chart, five of which peaked at number one: his debut release " Home", " If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)", "Third Rock from the Sun", "Pickup Man" (his longest-lasting number-one song, at four weeks) and "Bigger Than the Beatles". In addition to these singles, he had 12 others reach the top 10 and ten more reach the top 40 on the same chart. He also co-wrote singles for Holly Dunn, Tim McGraw, and Jo Dee Messina, and recorded with Mary Chapin Carpenter, George Jones, and Marty Stuart. Gavin Report
The ''Gavin Report'' was a San Francisco-based radio industry trade publication. The publication was founded by radio performer Bill Gavin in 1958. Its Top 40 listings were used for many years by programmers to decide content of programs. The publication was also responsible for running the Gavin Seminar, a convention for radio industry members. In February 2002, United Business Media, who had owned the Gavin Report since 1992, decided to close the publication. ''RPM'' ( and later ) was a Canadian music-industry publication that featured song and album charts for Canada. The publication was founded by Walt Grealis in February 1964, supported through its existence by record label owner Stan Klees. ''RPM'' ceased publication in November 2000.
