Holy Week (film)
''Holy Week'' ( pl, Wielki tydzień) is a 1995 Polish drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda. It was entered into the 46th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear for outstanding artistic contribution. Plot The film takes place in 1943 in occupied Warsaw. Irena Lilien, a young Jewish woman, hides with her friends. Taken by two Gestapo agents, she bribes them. On the street, she meets her ex-fiancé who takes her to his apartment. The presence of a Jewish woman gives rise to various attitudes among Poles living in the tenement house. Andrzej Wajda
Andrzej Witold Wajda (; 6 March 1926 – 9 October 2016) was a Polish film and theatre director. Recipient of an Honorary Oscar, the Palme d'Or, as well as Honorary Golden Lion and Honorary Golden Bear Awards, he was a prominent member of the "Polish Film School". He was known especially for his trilogy of war films consisting of ''A Generation'' (1955), ''Kanał'' (1957) and '' Ashes and Diamonds'' (1958). He is considered one of the world's most renowned filmmakers whose works chronicled his native country's political and social evolution and dealt with the myths of Polish national identity offering insightful analyses of the universal element of the Polish experience – the struggle to maintain dignity under the most trying circumstances. Wojciech Zygmunt Pszoniak (2 May 1942 – 19 October 2020) was a Polish film and theatre actor. Biography and career Pszoniak was born in Lwów, Nazi occupied Poland, now in Ukraine. He gained international visibility following Andrzej Wajda's 1975 film ''The Promised Land (1975 film), The Promised Land'', in which he played Moritz, one of the three main characters. The actor left Poland during the period of political unrest in 1980–81, when the Solidarity (Polish trade union), Solidarity trade union began and was ended by the imposition of martial law in Poland, martial law on 13 December 1981. Pszoniak found roles in France, where he was living and working. After the fall of communism in Eastern Europe in 1989, Pszoniak appeared in Polish movies and plays. Lew Rywin (born 10 November 1945 in a Nizhnyeye Alkeyevo, USSR) is a Polish film producer associated with Heritage Films (est. 1991). He has also been a member of the Polish Radio and TV committee and worked in an agency, Poltel, producing for Polish state-run TV. He participated in producing such films as Steven Spielberg's ''Schindler's List'', Roman Polański's '' The Pianist'', Jan Jakub Kolski's ''Pornografia'' and Marek Brodzki's '' The Hexer'', based on ''The Witcher'' books by Andrzej Sapkowski. His last film was never produced. It was about the life of Holocaust survivor Herman Rosenblat (with producers Harris Salomon and Abi Sirokh).
